Hello I just wanted to know if they is any advantage/disadvantages for using .info or .us domains Hope someone can help me out with this
Ok lets see what am i thinking first info's is less then us second .us not a popula domain like .com or .Net so save your money and get .Info
But I think .us is more recognizable to people (especially Americans), because it's a country TLD. For a few extra bucks I think the .us might be better. My 2 cents.
I have .com, .net, .org, .us, .cn, hk.cn, .info, etc. Depending on the contents, all performed equally.
I would only use .us if the site is fully US facing. Both work fine. I use both, but of course mostly .com's.
I should go for .info Its cheaper, its not only for US residents, its easy to remember, and it allows private whois (.us does NOT allow private registration for whois), .us required youre a resident of the USA (or your company is situated there). To be short, .info = best choise in this case
If you consider the same domain name but for different domain name extensions - better go with both. Because once you develop first domain name you might want the second domain name and that might be probably taken Think about future now
.us has not the same value as other ccTLDs because US surfer feels identified with the dot com. Anyway I don't think .info has better value, It may work well with sites that purely contain information about different themes but it has a lack when it comes to sites that don't offer information but games, adult content, etc. For SEO, i guess .info is as good as other TLD. And well, at the moment .infos still at a bargain price. Anyway, If I lived in the US I would prefer dot US ones .
SEO do not depend on the domain name. Redirect one to another. Having 2 domain names will drive more visitors to you
It would largely depend on the website/domain. It would make sense to use the .us for something relevant to specifically the US, eg a geo name such as that of a US city, state, perhaps a tourist attraction etc (LakeMead dot US, SalemOregon dot US, AmusementParks dot US, Maps dot US etc) As already mentioned, you should take into account the restrictions imposed on .US names such as no Privacy Shield allowed, residency requirements etc. .Info is cheap upfront, has less restrictions, is widely available, fairly well known and is not targeted to a specific geo area. A dot info is an extension to consider, especially for a short term project. The ultra low cost ceases to be a favorable factor when the name comes up for renewal. IF you plan to invest heavily in branding yourself (time, energy, money etc), it may be a good idea to invest in multiple extensions. IMO that only makes sense if you are also the holder of the .com .
yes, .info doamins are too cheap in registration and other domains with different extensions are costly. But all peoples prefer .com and .net domains..
.info is kind of diluted by spammers and illegal sites that use 'em and dump them after a year since they're often only 99 cents. the disadvantage is trust for .info. then we have the .US where you can't get private registration plus it's less well known.
True that spammers are using .info domains but there are many reputable websites using .info. If you are not using .info domains it would not be fair to look down on them just because you had been hearing a lot of unfounded claims against .info domains.
I think both .info and .us have same value. But .info is cheap in first registration but .us is not cheap in first registration. But it is good not to register .info and .us, but it is good to register .com, .net, .org etc. Anyway, it depends about the contents of the site.
if I had to choose, it'll be .info. what type of site do you plan on having it for. if its a resource/info site, obv. .info should be the way to go. I can imagine if its a group/organization site, then .us can be more fitting
If the website is targeted directly at the USA, than .us is best, I very much prefer.info though as the tld is more flexable, and also .us cannot have private whois.
