ning vs script

    Ok I would like to create a website like this

    they are using ning.com I would like to use a php script something like this website or even better does anyone know any???

    i wanna run the website off my own server and when ning is down it has the create a network thingy show up plus its like $33 a month for all the features
    imma use and im looking for a php script with similar options as ning nothing all fancy i was thinking of using joomla but that is a beast too much for me right now lol

    all these ready-made solutions are pretty heavy weight and clumsy.

    bestbet is always a custom coded thingy,
    but quality there starts at $2000 for a small one.
