Pulse never really did it for me anyway. There are much easier ways to find out what's selling on eBay - like using the API: http://developer.ebay.com/DevZone/javascript/docs/JSDocs/logical/FindPopularItemsRequestType.html
Get a developer account at eBay (it's free). http://developer.ebay.com/ Then read their documentation. It's not exactly a walk in the park, but it's worth doing.
That is terrible change to the service. It becomes less and less helpful the more changes they make to it. -Megan
here's list of websites where you can find out the latest trend, and quite possibly what may be selling on eBay: -Lycos 50; - Yahoo Buzz; - Amazon best sellers.
Actually there are some big e-com sites that list their best seller lists. THe data were pretty similar to eBay pulse.
I also never found ebay pulse did that much for me. Will certainly check out the other suggestions in some of the posts above. Thanks!
I'd also suggest you get some ideas from current trends and news. For example, I am pretty sure Olympics tickets were hot selling in eBay some months back...
