Hi all, I think the subjects already says it all. How can I promote my personal site, where I also talk about my writing? Do you have forums to suggest or techniques which have proven effective specifically for writers' websites? thanks
What type of writing are you talking about? What type of writing do you specialize in? Or do you write everything under the sun?
I write articles about sci/tech and the forex niche. My rate is 3 cents/word and up, which is more than most people charge because I focus on quality content and already have quite a few clients. But I don't know if writing e.g. on a forex forum will do... what do you think?
Try getting some clients from here on DP, as long as you have good quality samples and your writing is up to par and worth the 3 cents per word then im sure you will pick up some clients. Also, I once operated a full scale writing service and I did some SEO on the site for a highly competetive keyword and when the site was all the way back on page 4 I was still getting traffic from that ranking, so i would imagine that keywords are a very good way to go, either natural rankings or PPC. Good Luck
You might like to checkout HireContentWriters.com You can quote for projects over there. It is relatively new but I have vigorously started promoting it, so you will see a good amount of activity on it in few days.
I think you need to be able to write good. That is the first step, after you have your writing skills in place, make relevant posts at DP, general chat or here in the copywriting forum. Make sure they are relevant . You can keep looking at the offers posted in the content creation section if you want to write for others and raise some money to promote your website through that money. Once you have relevant threads and posts, good readers would automatically be attracted towards you and from thereon, you can redirect them to your site through your sig. links. So there you have it, besides, you can also try launching your articles on ezine and similar online magazines Regards, Jeewant
What will posting on a forex forum accomplish for you? Who is your target audience? Will this audience care that you're posting on a forum? Will it hurt/help your credibility? Would your time be better served establishing an authority site (trade or consumer) in the field? Does your target audience "hangout" online? If so, where? How can you create a presence there? Lots of "advice" spread on this forum without any foundation and qualification. Think about it.
Yes, DP itself is a great place to promote as I am fairly new I have been reading that using forums can not only help you promote your business but brand your name.
It's a good start that you have your website(s) included in your signature. You could also write articles and submit them to article directories such as Ezine Articles and Go Articles. In the "resource box" you can mention that you're a writer and that you can write similar content for others.
Ok, thanks for the good advice. I more or less already did everything you mentioned in the past few months and the result was I got to write on a few Alexa < 50K sites. I'm guessing that only sites with high traffic can afford a decent pay so I'm kind of targeting them. The problem is that I don't think many of those will post on DP to look for writers...! Oh and I also wanted to say, I found Indeed.com quite useful as well: just search for "freelance writer" or anything else you're interested in, I found one of my regular clients this way.
What does Alexa have to do with anything? I don't have one site (probably) that's under 50k and I can afford you and other any other writer here all day long. And I'm writing for a company that has their site ranked around 1,000,000 by Alexa. Not only can this company afford me, but they have half a billion in annual revenue. Traffic doesn't directly correlate to revenue. Never has, never will.
Well, to the sites I write for, traffic has some importance, since they mostly generate revenue from AdSense or text links. And of course traffic is never a bad thing, all other things being equal .
I make thousands of dollars every single month with AdSense and text links. And I've been doing it for years. So, I guess that reasoning is out the window. BTW, I'm didn't say traffic has no importance.
What marketjunction is getting at is that highly targeted traffic is the key. If you're getting 100 highly targeted visitors as opposed to 10,000 generic 0 second fly bys, you're better off with the 100. You can have a million visitors and still have a lousy click through rate. The key to conversion is not traffic by itself, it's converting the visitor into a clicker, buyer, joiner, caller or whatever your goal. It's moving them to the point of sale. And if they happen to be buyers who do not reach that point of sale right away, do you have some method of capturing information so you can follow up and in the future bring them to the point of sale. One of my sites has a click through rate of 18-25%. I have no clue what my alexa is. But I watch the traffic patterns and make changes to the pages to improve the conversion of the traffic I have. Forex trading blogs? Forex trading forums? Link exchange? I will have to admit, the task I hate the most is backlink building. That's why I don't do a lot of this myself. But good quality backlinks work better than just plugging them anywhere. Just start researching it.
