vBulletin Chargeback

Wow, this was unexpected. I've been scammed by people selling vB before. But I didn't think this would happen.

Basically I bought vB from this guy and many months later he decides to claim it back by saying he was hacked. And vB just gave it back to him.

"The original license owner has claimed this is an invalid transfer request and that he was hacked. For this reason this license is suspended until this can be sorted out."

And when I asked who was the one who did this, their email look at vB's response.

He just pulled this thing out. It looks to me vB has no intention of even trying to help the rightful owner. Or do what's fair.

    Very dissatisfied right now.

Ya, I'm guessing I can't do that because like it's been over 60 days.

Furthermore, Paypal do not cover what they consider "virtual items" which are not delivered to a home address.

Ya, I know, that's true. Unless you charge back from credit card then they just pussy out, and flip flops the other way.

They just go for the easiest way out. Just like vB those pricks.

Because they didn't do what you expect, even though you were made aware
of the risks yet you chose to get into it?

    FYI:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php

Your dispute is with the other party, not Jelsoft. Jelsoft has no obligations to
you whatsoever, even if you believe otherwise.

Oh well, it's conveniently easier to blame others for their misfortunes, rather
than take responsibility for their actions.

That's the thing, Gomar. Jelsoft's agreement only issues a license to a paying
user, and it won't allow them to transfer ownership or lease to another.

The person has always owned the license because Jelsoft said so, even if you
paid him for it. Beats me if that person is aware of it, but that hardly matters
since his licensing agreement with Jelsoft dictates what he can and can't do.

You took a chance with that party, you knew the risks, and you lost. Chalk it
up to experience, or try to pursue him if you're up to it.

Meanwhile, if you can't afford to buy a VB license, there are free solutions out
    there like MyBB or phpBB.

Why buy a second hand owned licence...shell out the investment and buy one direct from vb. Problem solved.

The vbulletin licence guys are not very supportive - I sell and buy forums all the time and I always have trouble with them.

Actually vB is so far being pretty fair. They told me to dish out the guy's email that I bought it from. I was able to go through my transaction and give them a screen shot of it. So they reviewed it and that they will keep the license in my account for now, unless something else pops up.

These case should be their issues. Sure you take a risk when you buy second hand but they allow you to transfer the license once every 12 months. It's part of the cost you pay when you originally buy vB. Lot of people are willing to pay that amount knowing that they can sell it for something when they no longer need it. So I think they do have some responsibility.

But I can see that not taking responsibility for it could encourage people to buy straight from them and they will make more money, but that's just call greedy especially if they can see who should be the real owner easily and chooses to ignore it.

I still actually don't regret buying it second hand. I would probably never pay $180 for a vB. I got mine for like half price.

Anyways so far I'm pretty satisfied with vB effort to solve this issue for me. But paypal is still such a prick, if google ever decides to challenge them with an online payment system I'll hop right over to google.

One can call it that. Another can call it being aptly "compensated" for making
an arguably valuable software they work to update and maintain, and it just
happens many are willing to pay their price.

For all we know, Jelsoft originally set it at a higher price then lowered it down
to what they figured their market is prepared to pay (unless anyone here who
kept up with it over the years can give a better picture). Then again, it takes
quite some time and effort to maintain software, and its creator/s can be well
within their rights to charge any fees they see fit.

Don't we all wish to make more money with the products or services we offer,
especially if the market is ready able and willing to pay its price? Unless you
don't mind someone labeling you greedy if you offer something they deem too
    expensive, maybe.

Anyway, good to know Jelsoft decided to accomodate you. Hopefully they've
not seen this thread and decided to reconsider. (knock on wood...)

Wow I would never agree to such terms.

I know that in PayPal terms they will not protect you on claims for service but I've have filed disputes with them in the past on service not received so I would try anyway.
