I put this thing called "Lava Buns" into my microwave about a hour ago. It's designed to be heated for 3 minutes on each side to hold in heat to be used for hunting and sporting events. I flipped the item over in the microwave and placed it on 3 minutes as it said on the directions. Total (6) minutes for both sides. Then I hear this explosion and looked to find my microwave door had exploded open. It seems the inside plastic inner shell that holds the chemicals had opened or poped.

The $500 microwave door won't shut or turn on. Do you think there is anyway of getting the manufacturer to pay for a new microwave or replace the one I have? I haven't called the company yet cause it's 4am here.

Damn., well at least it didn't create any serious damage to you.
Well did you check what temperature it needed to be heated?
Do you have any warranty of that Microwave?

I am not lawyer either, I hope someone comes with better option here....

Good luck and be careful next time. :)

I am retired from retail. I have viewed some cases like this before a lawyer can't do anything. lots of people tried there is a couple of steps to do this. first inform the store of the where the micowave was sold. They should be able to point you in the right direction about the manufacter and they could look up to see if its has happened before and there maybe a recall on it. but you must get a hold of the manufacter and explain to them what has happened. Plus call the manufacter of those buns see if they was defected and they may have a recall on them. But first call the store where you bought it from and talk to them in a polite manner and they should be able to help you.

But i think thats the chance you have to take. Spend some money, who knows, you will win the case by suing them.

I was a assisted manager for one of the top retailers for ten years. the cases did not even make it to court unless there was bodily damage or it caused a house fire. he would just be throwing money out the window believe me I seen it happen.

I know I probably won't get anything in regards from Whirl Pool, but seeing how I only used the 'LavaBuns' hot seat item for the first time, it blew my microwave to hell. Don't you think the manufacturers of the hot seat would do anything for me? Not good PR to have someone say they used your product once and it annihilated your microwave.

So I doubt that you will have a winning lawsuit on your hands. Odds are very good that the product in question, the LavaBuns, has specific instructions and warnings on the packaging that will protect them from these sorts of lawsuits. I would look very closely at the packaging before you pursue legal action you might save yourself a ton of time and money.

Well I'm 100% positive I followed directions according to the package on the hot seat. I'm really not looking to take anyone to court. However, on first contact via phone or letter, I want to be prepared for whatever. Whether, it's some non violent threats or... If you think about it the microwave costs me $500 US. Court cost would easily exceed that. It would just be nice if they would help with the replacement or repair.. but it's a big shot in the dark IMO. This is why I'm seeking advice from people who may have had a similar incident, or a lawyer who has had any clients in these types of situations.
