Hey guys, I am not much into coding, but yes I can read and interpret scripts. I use wordpress for most of my sites, but I am confused about the one, I will be working on very soon. - I need to make a school website, and I need to make an interactive website with pictures, pages, details, information etc. I am thinking of using Wordpress, as CSS is not one of my favourite way of styling, so I may use a premade theme, and edit it to fit my needs. Now can anyone tell me the best way to make my Wordpress installation into a Proper School Website CMS with Flash Navigation and all. Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
Thanks for the advise guys. But Joomla - Freaks me out . And Hiring someone, well I prefer designing my own sites. I just need to know about Flash Navigation, I think I can work on other aspects.
Flash navigation? What kind? Have you looked into the many AJAX plugins for wordpress?? I use wordpress as a HTML CMS all the time, it's a really functional platform!
Yes Joomla is a bit tough for beginners. I will recommend you to use MODx. A similar CMS like Joomla, but is very very simple and easy. You can find it at modxcms.com. Its really nice and will help you a lot. Otherwise there is always an easy option to get any wp coder who can do your site very easily, if you wish to spend money on this.
i would suggest you look for some premium themes bro, they will be good to edit yea it would cost you something between $50-100 but should be well worth it if you are getting paid for this project... any problem or query regarding wordpress pm me - i may be able to help you
I can get my hands on themes, no big on that, but I need a certain look out of it. And as the site is non-profit, I can't afford much expenses. That is why I will be really helpful if someone can guide me instead. Like I need some animations in buttons and all.
Let me suggest a premium wordpress theme: wp remix. (wpremix.com) It is not very costly. Many features are available to this 'wp remix' theme. Many types of page layouts are there in it. It is not very difficult to use. This may help you
- I've decided to go with a Flash Website in the overall look. Hope it goes as Planned. Thanks for all the suggestions. It may help me in making Sub-Sections of the Website.
Yeah I would also go with Joomla, its very easy to use installation and everything plus you'll get more school type templates for it (I've made atleast 20+ sites with Joomla thats why I know )
You can also add the Flash part in the site's header, footer or on a specific page. WordPress allows you to customize any part of a page on your site by editing the WordPress theme you're using. Just edit the header.php or footer.php files in your WordPress theme (located in wp-content/themes/your_theme_name_here) and add your Flash stuff there
You can simply edit the Respective files to get the intended look, you may want for a website. For e.g. I just tried out, what someone up here said about editing templates for navigation, and it actually works Thats why Wordpress can act as a CMS.
