Making your menu look just like a skyscraper ad?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by abi, Sep 17, 2008.

Is it against googles rules to make your own site menu look just like the format/font/colour of a wide skyscraper ad???

Then have the real menu on the left, and the ad on the right - of a 3 column site design.

Or have the menu on the right and the ad on the left.

Or have them keep switching on a page refresh with php???

    Thanks for your help!

You're tricking AdSense so that would be NEVER allowed.

    oh :(

I didnt think what i was trying to do was too bad - i thought it would just be classed as "blending"?

Here is a quick mockup of what i wanted my site to be like. the ad is on the left, and the main menu on the right. (The links will not just be "home and "forum" - that was just for this demo)

So if i make my site in the design above, but have the menu on the right nothing like the adsense ad, that would be ok???

Thanks for your help guys!!! :)

Hai Abi! What you are trying to do is permissible as per the TOS. But never put the caption for the ad as Menu and trick the visitors to click the ads; however blending of the ads with suitable captions are allowed...

Randomizing the ads between the two columns I think could cause ban problems. ;)

And you can put "Sponsored Ads" in the heading. It is allowed by google.

haha -- yes :p Maybe swapping the position of the ads/menu would have me heading for a ban.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!! :)

I was thinking about just leaving it blank, then i guess these is slightly more chance people will click on them.

I would never lable it "Links" or "menu" etc.. I've read so much from people getting banned!!!

There are so many opposite reviews of my idea of making my menu look like an ad... Who is right??? Can i do this or not do you think???

I'll just have to wait and see which has the most in awhile

    Sorry!

But im more confused now then i was before i asked?! :p

Will my site design be ok?

With the ads on the left looking identical to the menu on right.

wow -- i STILL dont know the answer! :( lol

    I'm guessing in a way no-body knows!!

Because look at the bottom of dp.. The "Ads by Google" links there are REALLY blended into the site - they look just like part of the site, not ads at all.

All i really want to do is the same, but down the left, instead of down the right, or at the bottom.

I think the best thing to do would be just to make the ads a total opposite colour to my site. then i know im safe. :)

I really wouldn't bother doing it for two reasons.

1). You could be breaking Google's TOS.
    2). It looks rubbish.

OP...mock up a site and submit it to Adsense and ask THEM. I don't think it would be allowed, but as you can see from the posts in here, there are many opinions and they can't all be right (mine included) So, are you willing to risk your site on what we THINK? Ask Google directly and let us know, that's the safest way to go.

Tell them the page is not live (and make sure it is NOT) Tell them you have this as an idea for a layout but want to make sure that it is permissible before you go live with it.
