They said there is no 'duplicate content penalty'. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/09/demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty.html Here's a little of the blog post from Google:
I think news services would suffer a lot from it, but either there are other factors that keep the news services from being 'penalized' as much, if at all, or Google's algorythm is clever enough to know the differences between "good" duplication and "bad duplication". I'm glad they are trying to clarify things. There's a ton of bad information out there when it comes to Google and SEO.
Well i think there is no plenty for duplicate content Wordpress First Post Look at the results 2,290,000 If the theory is correct they all should be penalized. But i dont see All that matters is the no of backlinks and i have personally seen that a person who copied content from a site and his rankings in the SEs was way much better than the original site(from which it was copied) in them because of only one factor and that is backlinks. And i really doubt that googles algorithm has power to detect "good" and "bad duplication". Duplication is duplication ( no good or bad thing) So the only way google would delete the content from their index or ban that adsense account is if the Orignal webmaster takes some kind of legal action like DCMA thing, only then google can Penalize or ban you.
Maybe they are all penalised. One has to come first though. Plus I am sure there are more than 2,000,000 sites that have that page. I am guessing, assuming that there is a penalty, that those sites are ranked on other factors of their page.
Thanks for sharing this article, very interesting. I think google trys to filter out pages with the same content and I agree with what was said about adding some thing new to content thats already published on the net.
Practically I don't know how it all comes along. I mean how do they determine the rightful owner of the original content. It's very hard to come up with an algo to deal with all that.
This is a great article, thanks for sharing it, I was always under the impression that whenever google detects duplicate content the duplicate content gets devalued, but that's not necessarily a penalty.
If your site is only scraping content Google has to smack you down. If not their would be even more sites that would be set up scraping content with strong keywords.
Duplicate penalties refer to your own site. Things like meta tags and page titles, I know because it messed my serp rankings up. You get warnings in GWT for this.
You know what that proves more than anything? Google actually reads what is posted at this site and other places like this. And to think they did not care.
Don't really know what google do with dups. All I hope is that google will do something to protect those who have original contents and put them in priority.
