I don't think CJ is for me.

My site is just over a month old (www.triviaforcharity.com) and I have tried various ad providers. I have heard great things about CJ so I gave them a shot, and like being able to pick the ads that appear and have them rotate.

So far I have 42K impressions, 14 clicks, and 0 income. (Yes $0.0 earned) And the CTR is nothing short of embarrassing.

I have had it for a couple weeks to make sure I see it through, and just today replaced a small ad with Google text ad, but I think it might be time to throw in the towel.

Anyone got any advice before I give up on Commission Junction altogether?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

42K impressions, 14 clicks --> trouble is here.
Obviously 14 clicks are not enough o get a sale, so problem is not with conversion.

You are probably not understanding your user profile, as users doesn't seem to show any interest in your ads. 1 click in 3000 impression, thats probably the worst CTR i have ever heard of!

probably you should look for your niche. May be your ads are not focused to your niche

your banners aren't very relevant to your viewers. if they come to your site, its for charity or trivia so try to pick advertisers that are more in that category. a banner saying "buy stupid gifts" doesnt seem like it would convert well to begin with, let alone someone looking to earn money for charity by answering trivia questions. cj has some charities as well as a few gaming sites, you may want to try those before you give up. maybe even try survey sites, they seem to convert pretty well.

    cool site tho!

With such few clicks, your problem is either the location of the ads or the content of the ads. Are the ads targeted towards your visitors? Look at AdSense to see what kind of ads you see, and then try to run similarly-themed ads through CJ.

Is USA Today relevant to your charity site? To your traffic?

Thanks for the posts so far, I appreciate the time and effort to give input.

The ads AdSense serves up are all about donating to charities, and the CTR is not much better, maybe 1 click for 2500 impressions instead of 1 per 3000. I thought maybe if I put up a bunch of random ads I would have better luck, but as you have all already learned, that is not a good strategy.

Keep the tips coming, but so far AdSense, Adbrite and CJ have not worked out.

It took me about 6 months to make money on CJ merchants. I recommend Jeremy Palmer's free ebook to help www.quityourdayjob.com. You have to test and improve your site (do you have web analytics to help you see what kind of traffic you're getting?). Maybe your niche is too narrow? Anyway, the ebook will take you through research about demand online.
CJ is great - they pay on time and they are reputable with many programs to choose from. They're not for everyone but most affiliates really like working with them.
    Good luck!

I can't find any good affiliates for my site. It is basically a click to donate site with a twist. This is not a 'niche' site, it is more of a general interest site, and I feel like that may be causing problems with advertising.

As far as traffic, in 6 weeks I have over 100,000 hits. Mostly word of mouth, a few paid adverts.

Well looking at your page layout, my eyes instantly focused in on every single thing other than your advertisements. You have a ton of different colors going on your site, then you have a few bland ads which don't really relate to your content.

I wouldn't throw in the towel yet. Your site looks good, try restructuring the ads to see if that helps.

You dont have good ads. Go with what was said above, a charity ad. I am on there and they have plenty of them. Also your placement should be more in the face....When I open your site in IE I see everthing but your ads....and for the google ads, blend them better, bring them up to the link area.
Its just your placement, you need to tweak it.
    Good Luck

Don't give up. That's the worst thing to do.

It's all about trial and error. Change the location / look of the ads. Get text ads and see if that makes a difference.

Just try different things and see what works best.

    Good luck.:)
