How mods are chosen?

I was going through a thread where everybody was wishing two new mods. Even I wished them, but I am not able to understand how mods are chosen in DP. You have to file any kind of request for that or by post count or by itrader. What actually criteria is used to choose anyone as a MOD?

Well first you need to fill out a 20 page test, then if you are lucky enough to be chosen you have to get all sorts of tests done on you... its a really long process. IM JUST KIDDING, im not sure you prob have to be a member for a long time and have lots of rep and helpful posts.

I'm not sure but I have a feeling that they ask you, not you ask them, sort of like skull & bones.

They aren't chosen. They are born as mods. But they are baby mods, and it takes time for them to reach mod puberty, and then become young adult mobs. After that, they get a mod education, and are accepted into the society of mods, to moderate and answer question from forum members.

Most people don't realize, that the mods here at DP are part of that special breed of mod people, the most elite of whom will eventually become board owners, and Administrators.

Not everyone can be a mod, even if someone was to choose them. You are either born mod or not. It has to be in your blood.

I think a moderator is someone who has been a consistent and known member for a long time. Also he should not only be an active member but also know the working of the forum.

Nobody wants to be a mod here, that's just too much work.
I bet the mods are convicts and they are paying for their crimes by being mods here.

I personally imagine a huge milk chugging contest and the winners get to be mods.

Whoever can chug a whole gallon of milk then get spun in a office chair for 5 minutes and manage not to barf is the winner! [Note: the milk chugging can be replaced with beer where applicable]

Shawn and Rob (generally) pick people whom have full rep, age of account (2006 or below is current cut off date), very knowledgeable, have been behaved the most, and probably off of post reporting. You will also need to know proper grammar and spelling. You also have to speak English fluently.

Simply you donate $1000 to Shawn and he makes you a mod. Donating $2000 will give you a super moderator status and if you donate $5000 Shawn will make you an admin. (That's what Rob did, by the way!)

When they need mods, they come to you, you dont need to go to them :)

This is the main rule in all the forums.

You have to be smart, sneaky, tolerant, weirdoo and a big pain in the ass to some newbies that can't read the rules.

Besides that, you need to answer correctly 303 questions about politics, beer and lingerie.

And no, you don't need to be a smart ass.

    :p:p

The current moderators see who is contributing to the forum, reporting posts, helpful advice etc. Then Rob or Shawn will decide if he wants them to be mods or not and PM them an invite. If accepted they'll become one. I think that's it :)

That was the old price! Nowadays there is some sort of an auction system, I heard Tik Tok bid the same price as me so we both get in. Must work extra hard getting the kick backs to ensure a good ROI :)
