Linking From Yahoo Groups - Does it have value?

I notice that people can place link in link section of Yahoo Groups.

Suppose I run a fitness forum , I then place a link in related Yahoo groups.

Will this link has value for my forum from SEO perspective?

 

i'm not a seo pro but it will help you get traffic.

 

if you are thinking about increase in PR , i dont think that would help . same goes with orkut and other social networking sites .

 

Directly no.. but indirectly why not?

The question is, almost for sure it's a noFollow page or a page with pr0 (and it will remain 0). However, if you choose the right group(s) it will drive people to your content. Eventually some of them will have blogs or site and eventually(2) they'll link to you.

Anyway, it'll still drive people over. If you have any other mean of monetize like adsense, it could increase the click rate.

In summary, traffice is always good and, in the long run, it could increase your PR. But not directly. But, then again, the next update it's not over the corner yet.

 

I spent today spamming, I mean sharing my link on yahho groups so I will report back if I gain any traffic. Worst case scenario I just wasted some time.

Does anyone really use those anymore? They seem so 1995

 

See SEO is all about understanding users and their requirement.. so when you are placing your link in such groups or social websites.. they should show some importance of that thing either forum, blog or website in the minds of users...

 

I don't think they have any value for google but we can get some traffic if you answer in good manner regular basis .

 

Nofollow, so no advantage in ranking. But yes have some chance of traffic depending on how active the group is and how many members are in the group and the topic of group.

 

Yeah, Nofollo doesn't gives you link juice benefit but you can satisfy yourself with traffic.

I've had one hit from yahoo groups direct

But! I "posted" as in mass emailed out to the whole group a certain link of relevance to the group, and notice I have had maybe 20 UV come from email and land on that exact page today. It's obviously from the groups. And since it was so highly targeted they are sticking around for a few minutes - really checking the whole section out.

So - yes - appears I did not waster my time, shown some benefit already.
