I think it's fine. There are huge corporations willing to pay graphic designers huge amounts for logos and design. While there are also tiny local businesses that cannot afford the average designer for a minor part of their business. I don't think people choose local mechanics etc based on their letterhead or logo. They just need a simple, basic design that beginners can offer for... $20. So at the end of the day you get what you pay for...
Alot of the "problem" has to do with the globalized community competing for work. I struggled to understand this stuff for the longest time too. Check out the locations of people that respond to the threads. You see people from the US, India, and everywhere in between. To us in the US, $5 is just about worthless, give your laundry hamper a good shake down and you can come close to $5 in change. (not saying we're that well off that we have money everywhere, but its just a small amount) Then think about the eastern countries where our almighty dollar is worth much more. $5 goes alot farther over in those types of places, so you can get work done for cheap and the "cheap" here is worth more there, so everybody wins, except you, haha.
and now think about the poor guys like me that are from europe ..... 5$ is nothing over here if you compare it to pound or euro.....
Sounds like it's about time to find other avenues of income Other than DP. (Which I'm sure you already have)
thanks for the advice I would nerver have come across this idea^^ but you'Re right thats the only way to go on. just wanted to let the others know that there are some people that are hitten harder by this then they are. this always makes you feel better, right?
I agree with u, Lot of thanks for this writing! Dont say was bad mood, actually this is the reflaction of all designers like u, Again thanks to u
Thats why you don't look for designing gigs online. I don't take less than $20/hours. No one should cheapen themselves for something they're good at. Age do not matter. If you are willing to charge someone $20 for a logo, just don't regret it.
