Still new to domaining - need a start

Hello all. As you can see, I'm still a bit lost as to where I should start posting my domains up for sale. I have two pretty good ones that I want to sell, but I can't post in the for sale section yet. What are some good sites a newbie like me can get started with selling domains?

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I suggest you to register with sedo.com - where you can list your domains for sale for free and if you sold them their commission is 10% of the sale.

Also you can use sitepoint but there you must pay $20 to list a single domain name for sale

Godaddy domain after market is another place where for less than $5/year (I don't remember the fixed price) you can participate in domain auction

    I hope I was helpful.

I'm going to agree with stoyank and say Sedo. Get them listed there, then pay for them to be in the category showcase for the USA and UK (assuming the domain applies to both countries). That will cost 14eur, but if the domains are good enough it's worth doing. Then list the domain for sale on PushToAuction.com. I used the standard listing that was only $0.50 but you could use the featured listing if you want yours to stand out more. Then, try an assign a price to it as a priced domain on Sedo will sell much better than a none-priced one.

I did all this a month ago, and 2 weeks later my domain sold for $275 :)

This could work for you but I suggest you not do this UNLESS the member specifically asked (or posted a WTB thread)
as it would otherwise be considered spamming.

I agree with the suggestion of SEDO.

Also, you have been a member since June so all you need to do now, in order
to post to the BST section, is to continue participating in threads. Post quality
threads or responses and once you reach 25 posts, I think it is(?), you
will be able to post your sales threads.

A novel idea, how about contacting companies that might be interested in your domains directly instead of waiting for them to come to you? If you don't think you can do that, then the domains probably won't sell anywhere anyways.

You can also sell it on forums like this one, ofc you need 25 posts here.
But other sites like dnscoop.com you only need 10.

But yeah, Godaddy, Sedo, sites like that. Are your best bet ;)

All of the replies were great, but I LOVE this one. Never heard of PushToAuction. I have two domains I need to sell and for a buck I can try to get them on auction.

Thank you all for your replies, I'll be looking into all of this.

I do not want to discourage you but in most cases if you have really pretty good domain names for sale you would already know where to list them. In reality, it would be very rarely someone to have a good name before knowing where to sell it.
Anyway, I wish you good luck with the domaining now and in the future!

There are a number of places you are able to list your domains for sale if you're looking to receive fair market value for them.

There's no reason you should limit yourself to one though. In fact, I recommend you list them in multiple venues.

Here are a few I recommend:

    Free to List:

    Sedo.com
    TDNAM.com
    Moniker.com

    Charge a small fee:

    Afternic & BuyDomains
    SitePoint

    Forums:

    DigitalPoint
    DnForum
    NamePros
    DomainState
    V7N

    Other:

    Ebay

If you truly have good domains, I honestly suggest you hang onto or develop them. That will increase their worth.

You can always actively seek out potential buyers, but that's your choice. It's best to wait for the right person to approach you.

Selling in the forums is a tough one. Since there are so many resellers hanging out in the forums, they do not wish to pay market value. Most of them want to buy domains for little to nothing.

Selling domains on ebay is even worse. Simply because nobody wants to pay more than $.99 for anything and I am pretty sure your domains will sell for less than market value.

Therefore I do not recommend that particular venue.

I think the best thing to do, if you really want to sell them, is list them at reputable venues (do your research) then actively market them in various forums, blogs, etc.

Don't be afraid of paying a small fee to join a program to list your domains. (DnForum, Afternic, etc.)

I suggest using caution with listing upgrades. Unless you have a domain like business dot com. It may just be a waste of your money. Wait to see what kind of traffic you receive simply from the domain listing alone.

I wish you luck in your sales.

If want to shoot me a PM with the domains, I would be more than happy to recommend the best place for them.

Just put a category showcase and put my domain on PushToAuction. Hopefully it'll get noticed.

Sorry, I was testing having it paid to reduce spam and crap listings, but it ended up even keeping good ones out because a lot of domainers don't like to pay :)

I'm toying with the idea of having a "Stale" category, and anything that has been on the site for more than 2 months without getting an offer would be moved there. It might help keep down on the clutter while not completely deleting it in case someone eventually wants it.

    Any thoughts on that?
