What Google thinks of Amazon affiliate sites!

I thought this might be interesting for Amazon affiliates, from the Google Blog today:

I think this has been said here plenty of times, but now we have it from the horse's mouth! Just putting up a site running a boggo Amazon script is not going to get you very far...

I’m currently working on a Amazon shop currently. I am targeting wii fans. I have a great domain that I am going to use and get ok traffic on it already. I’m going to have must have items in the middle of the page, on the right column I will have weekly picks and the main attraction it will be a spotlight item of the day. What should I do to make sure my shop is a success? Any ideas? FYI design will be unique table-less css (fast loading) I will work on back links, link exchange and seo. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

It sounds like you're on the right track - arranging the data you get from Amazon in some meaningful way that adds value for the visitor with those weekly picks etc. But I guess there is still the matter that you can't get round - unique content. Customers, and therefore the GoogleBot, are after reviews, customer comments, articles etc. etc. - I think that's what's really going to make the site a success, but that's the area wii, sorry, we always want to scrimp on...

Yes, I always thought an opt-in newsletter was a good thing, too. It is surprising how many people ARE willing to sign up for your newsletter, and I bet they bring some repeat sales too...
