I have 33 keyword phrases on my adwords list. Only 2 are 2 words, 10 are 3 words and the rest are 4 or more. I want to narrow it down more and I'm wondering what the rest of you use as a minimum CTR to keep a word/phrase on your list. I have one phrase which is pretty much the name of the niche that gets the fast majority of my impressions of impressions (8800+) but few clicks (120). It has the 2nd lowest CTR. I'm guessing that's because there is much more competition for this phrase than for the more specific phrases. The position isn't bad - 6.3 average, but I think I'd have to pay some big bucks to get it to the top. And really, I'm not at the top for any of my phrases but I'm not fussed about that. So what do you think? What's your minimum CTR?
For some keywords my minimum CTR is 1.5% and for other 10%. Ctr is not a constant,it varies a lot and it depends on many factors like adcopy, position, and your competition.
just created a bunch of long tail keywords got a whopping 40% CTR on them i never knew long tail works that good.
CTR is relative and constant. This means that keywords should not be dropped because one has a 5% ctr and another has a .50% ctr. ROI determines if a keyword should stay. If I am losing money on a keyword then I drop it. If I have a 0.01% CTR but its putting cash in my pocket... then the keyword stays
I wouldn't drop a keyword exclusively because of its clickthrough rate. If it has a good cost per conversion, then I'd want to keep it. Also, if the search volumes are low, then the impact of keeping it on other keywords would be negligable. Certainly, if I'm getting a lot of impressions, but few clicks, I'd consider removing it (or adding new negatives, if it's on Phrase Match), but as Robert says, the actual level that I'd cut it off at depends on a number of factors (such as profitability, the extent to which it will impact other keywords, the average position etc).
