http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/09/presidential.polls/index.html While there is still a long ways to go, I knew that the Palin pick was a very smart pick. A lot of the Democrats tried to downplay her, but it certainly hasn't worked. I think polls are beginning to show that she is a brilliant pick for McCain. As I've said before though, polls aren't everything and really mean squat when it comes to who wins. However, a lot of the Democrats love to show off leads in the polls, so I figured I'd do the same.
Started a couple of days ago. I think the Republicans are still a little behind, but we are getting closer! Thanks for the nice post!
Finally a left-winged ______ admits Bush won.... (not a bad word, but erased to keep from getting infraction ) Hopefully we can put a stop to the theft attempts that we saw the last 2 elections, starting with jailing those who are registering the dead and illegals to vote.
I have to say I am not much for Mcain but hey now Palin is another think I mean did you hear her speech? Boy was she good ... I wanted to vote for her. Reckon she would be the "Great woman behind a kinda great man"
Please spend 1 hour researching about Palin before deciding to vote for her. You still don't know what she stands for...
I admit: I'm surprised, PHP. I predicted that this was a horrible move for McCain, and it may yet be, but there's no denying he has gained significantly since choosing her, at least so far. I think the camp has played her beautifully. Brought her out to a canned speech before the party Praetorian guard and faithful, and kept her quiet since then. She thus stands as a silent beacon, shimmering from her coming out party, while Biden is busy running his mouth, and blowing it. Time will tell, of course, particularly when the camp is forced to put her out there, in an uncontrolled environment (debates coming). But so far, my early assessment of this being a blunder for McCain is simply wrong.
Interesting view. Up until that one thread about Biden and the Senator Graham I haven't heard much of what he has said either. About the extent of what I've seen of him is eating ice cream cones next to Obama and generally just lurking around with him. I agree with you in the sense that Palin hasn't said much though since the Republican Convention. I think the biggest difference was that Obama went with a safe pick whereas McCain went with a more shocking, do or die, type of pick. There is very little to discuss when it comes to Biden. He is to Obama what Cheney is to Bush. Cheney didn't really draw in any votes (as Palin does) but he didn't really hurt him either.
I agree with this, very well put. I know from past history, Biden does have an issue with foot in mouth disease, though I think the guy is quite bright otherwise. But he keeps this up, while Palin remains silent, it will seriously screw the Obama ticket. As frustrating as it is for me, and as much as I obviously discount the substantive merits of Palin's vice presidency, Obama also needs to do what he can to stay above the fray and engage McCain, and engage him on the merits. For him to engage Palin is for him to appear less than presidential. Borrowing from recent history - the 2004 election - would be a good thing for the Obama ticket to keep in mind.
All she has done since she has been introduced to the American people is repeat the same lies that she said in her acceptance speech at the RNC. They falsely presented her as being a fiscal conservative that stands up to corruption. No matter how many times they repeat lies they still are lies. Sadly there are a lot of people who don't care about and they might get away with it. "Keep the people ignorant and they will vote for a republican every time" - Karl Rove
I think it was a brilliant political move, but it's not good for the country. The McCain campaign is basically using her as a pawn in order to get votes. This was a purely political pick aimed to distract, posture and maneuver through the campaign. The McCain campaign has used Palin as a centerpiece over which to feign righteous indignation already on at least two occasions. McCain canceled an interview with Larry King because of the way a CNN anchor(Campbell Brown) asked questions about the decisions Palin had to make as Commander-in-Chief of the Alaskan National Guard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYYiw_y2qDI And the second instance of feigned righteous indignation is of course over the lipstick comment, which is a completely fabricated controversy aimed at causing distraction and getting Obama mired in old style political mud slinging.
It's the post-convention boost. Obama got his, it's now McCain's turn. The real deciding polls will be the ones after the presidential debate. It has always been like this, it will always be like this. The American mind has a very short attention span.
I think the polls have been pretty even thus far and many polls project a McCain win but I would still give the edge to Obama. I would be surprised come November if McCain won. Obama has the edge on voters that don't give a crap or are not informed and if those voters turn out he will win by a landslide. If Obama is elected he will use the office to be one big campaign to get reelected and all his promises he makes know will be the same one again in 4 years. Obama gets the free pass.
