So I had a root canal done a year ago and about a week ago it started hurting again. It progressed in pain every day until yesterday when I was in tears at the dentist office. My dentist took x-rays and said the teeth look fine where the pain is coming from. He said my sinuses look clogged, and my sinuses could be putting pressure on my tooth which is causing the pain. So I went to an endodontist (specialize in root canal), he does some tests, x-rays, and he can't figure it out either. So currently I'm on 750mg Vicodins, Sinus Relievers, Antibiotics, and ibprofin just to try to keep the pain at bay (and sometimse all that shit doesn't help). I was told by the endodontist it might be TMJ (something with my jaw) or maybe something the dentist can't see. Basically they're baffeled because they can't re-create the pain by tapping on my teeth, so they don't know if the cause is my tooth. I'm kind of scared that this extreme pain has so many professionals confused, and the pain medication only works sometimes. If anybody has any ANY advice or tips, please give them. I just want this pain to go away.
Dam thats not good.. I dont suggest you try any method that you find online as they are not ture 100%, but give yahoo answers a try, it has worked for me in the past for finding a few answers.
Oh... I'm so sorry for you sweetie! A toothache is one of the worst feelings. I hope you get better soon.
I feel you man I just had two teeth pulled 2-3 weeks ago. All is well now though My advice would be this: 1.) Pin point the pain to the best of your ability. 2.) Grab some Anbesol Oral Anesthetic/Benzocaine 20% from walgreens, cvs, or your local drug store. Try to get the orange (gel) type, the pasty white cheaper stuff doesn't work so well IMO. 3.) Take a cue tip and rub on the gel around the entire tooth along with the small section of outer and inner gum line around the tooth only. 4.) Wait at least 5-10 minutes for it to sink into your tissue and start numbing. Try not to get your spit mixed into it for at least a a few minutes or until the pain goes away. If your pain goes away then it's for sure your nerve in your tooth or some other nerve in that area firing off for some reason. If you don't have any relief at all, I would think it could be another issue not even related to your teeth. Whether it be your sinus's, jaw, or something else. You will have a better idea at least and if it works, your pain should diminish a bit allowing you to sleep etc.. I really want to emphasize not buying anything but 'Anbesol Maximum Strength Gel] That's what it says on the package and it works better than the red cross stuff to me anyways. Worst case, you lose $5-$7 on the medicine.
Thanks so much man I don't know why the numbing gel didn't cross my mind earlier, I'm going to go try to pick so up right now. Thanks for the details on which kind to get too, I really really appreciate it man thanks
NP. If they don't have that exact one blue/yellow/white/maroon colored vial, I would recommend going somewhere else to find it. The others don't touch the pain nearly as close as this one for some reason. I compared the ingredients and their nearly identical. The only difference is the texture or thinkness and color pretty much. Dunno why it is..
I found it at Albertsons, the very last one. Maximum Strength Anbesol Gel 20% Benzocaine. The tube is yellow and purpleish so I think it's the correct one. Thanks again bro definately +reps for you
I feel your pain. I had an infected/impacted wisdom tooth that had me in the fetal position for a few days straight. Not even the painkillers the doc gave me were doing much good. Maybe it's a dry socket? That would be my guess. If it was TMJ/lockjaw, you'd know. Your jaw would hurt right under the ear, where the jaw and skull connect. Don't take "We don't know" for an answer. Get a second opinion from another dentist.
Yeah I agree on that. Hopefully that medicine will help. If it does, you know your serve if going off for a reason. Maybe they can get rid of cut the root out? I'd try the anti's and then bring the question up to the dentist after a couple more opinions..
This may sound strange, but a really bad ear infection can make you feel tooth pain. I would go to a regular medical doctor and get checked out for the sinus issue and possible ear infection.
Yeah my ears feel "clogged" throughout the day, I don't feel sick or anything like the flu or a cold. I need to see a regular doctor probably, too bad i don't have insurance
Well I have very little experience with dentistry or tooth pains (my last visit to the dentist was over 14 years ago now) but it does sound a lot like an exposed nerve ending, although I would expect any qualified dentist would be able to figure that out. Also since it happened much later than your rot canal it doesn't seem likely that the two are related. Have you considered just yanking all your teeth out and going with dentures? No seriously, I hope it gets better and soon.
Definitely stick with the sinus medications. A few years ago I had nearly the same problem and it turned out to be sinuses. It's amazing how much pressure and pain they can exert.
