I hate using odd ones like .TV and would be weary of using them for much more than something like a video podcast. I never really see high ranking .TVs, though I must say they aren't created that often so that has to be a factor.
.tv don't seem to rank real well. A lot of people use them such as NBC has a .tv for the video's of their shows that are backlogged etc and have also seen vlogs using them but you are better off getting a .com
I have one live .TV site. It is related to TV in a round about way. We do fairly well in SERPS. However we have a major keyword.tv domain. So that might help a little. If you have .com options I would typically recommend using them, unless your .tv domain is really strong.
To be honest, that sounds like quite a strong domain, and I'm sure with some effort you could make it into virtually anything as long as the sport isn't too dominated... If the sport isn't that popular then I'm guessing there aren't that many websites, and in that cash if you have the sport name in your URL you should be able to do some pretty cool stuff with it. Try making a video series or something, or maybe even a site where companies can pay to put their advertising videos..
