I'd like a substantive discussion on the issue of the McCain ticket's rep as anti-earmark mavericks, given the actual record of McCain's running mate.

I'll start us off. The VP nominee loves pork, by my read of her record.

Concerns about lipstick, or whether Obama is an Al-Qaeda fundamentalist Islamicist set to overthrow the United States may be left at the door at the end of the hall, the room on the extreme right; concerns about whether Palin is a good parent because her kid has gotten knocked up, or whether the GOP is made up entirely of satanist sex offenders, may be left at the door at the end of the hall, the room to the extreme left. This room is reserved for thinking contributors of all persuasions, thanks.

It started becoming evident that there was more to her record than just the convenient sound bytes from the convention.
I keep inviting those that claim others are on a smear campaign to scour the Alaskan Newspapers, and the Alaska.gov website and look at the actual proof that her record does not reflect what the McCain platform keeps boasting.
Concerning the Ketchikcan and Gravina Island Access Project...It is clear. Congress put a damper on that project, but she clearly supported the project before hand, all the way down to posing with the t-shirt.

Only after congress, especially McCain ridiculed it, did she take the "I said no to it" platform.

If you look at the records of 2006, and 2007 you can see it.
I wrote an article, with links to reputable sources, and the state documents:

As for McCain's record of slashing "Pork Barrel" spending, since George Bush's re-election, it has been good, no question. However, some states and rural areas of the country rely on earmarks to get things done, because they don't have the tax money for expensive projects like sewage, and roads. Alaska was one of them until the price of oil shot up.

It also appears that McCain talks a good game, but lacks the education, and understanding in constitutional law to properly execute his visions:

The Arizona senator targeted pork barrel spending by Congress, and he actively supported the Line Item Veto Act of 1996, which gave the president power to veto individual spending items. However, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1998 that the act was unconstitutional-Wikipedia

Both candidates wave a good flag, but when it comes down to it, both their educations together, don't equal one degree from any of the other candidates, which is important. If you don't understand constitutional law, how can you enforce it?

Actually Biden and Obama both have law degrees and have or still teach constitutional law on a collegiate level, as well as sat on various boards.

Obama taught Constitutional Law at Chicago University Law School. and was President of Harvard Law Review.

Obama is a seriously gifted guy. I've been seriously disappointed with some of his choices since garnering the nomination, but looking at raw ability, there isn't a question in my mind who would make the finest president.
