The US gov't will give US residence a $40 Off coupon for digital tv converter box because on Febraury 17, 2009, all analog airwaves will be switched off to free the airwaves. In fact, digital TV has a better quality than analog TV. ;)

The switchover started in the UK in October, 2007. It will be completed by 2012.

Personally, I don't give a damn. I switched to digital about 7 years ago.

And then all of the HD will overload and cause a power shortage, electrifying everyone, causing a bug in the hydron coliider, and ending the world from a black hole. That's whats going to happen on December 21 2012;);)

Nothing change in my country too and I think it will be far away. However, I agree that digital TV has a better quality than analog TV.

Analog transmissions here in Australia will cease in 2012 - but most people (everyone I know) switched to digital years ago (we've had DTV since 2001).

There's still nothing to watch though (we've only got FIVE free to air stations in my state).

Once you go digital, you can't go back.

The quality is so much better.

All new TV's come with built in HD tuners so its a good excuse to buy a new TV.

I would recommend Samsung as a great value for money TV.

I don't think my country still has any plans about TV going digital so I guess I would have to wait for a couple of years :)

Actually, analog is superior to digital in every way but noise suppression. Digital may give the appearance of a better picture but it resolves fewer colors, resolution is less, quantization is poorer and so on. The same error is made by those who perceive digital is better than film. Far from it.

    Belgium is also switching..
It's actually a non-event that's being misused to have everyone switch to digital cable.
They're stopping with broadcasting analog in the air but like 95% of the people in Belgium have cable anyway so aren't influenced with it (analog cable signals won't be stopped, only people that use an areal antenna need to convert).
But that's not what everyone in the shops says - they just say analog will be stopped and everyone needs to by a digital cable box now..

    i don't watch tv,but my room mate does,sometimes.
he got the coupon and has it hooked up,even though we have cable that was canceled, but not disconnected.

the thing with digital, either you have a signal or you don't.it's like satellite.
a rain storm will stop the signal, hey even me walking to kitchen will block the signal from the rabbit ears. :D
