Helo Friends I have started a blog on Rajasthan , which I will update daily with unique content and pictures. I would like to inquire whether published content on blogs is copyrighted by its nature and originality or do we have to copyright by our local authority such as copyrights, patents etc.
It would probably depend on where you live, but if you're in the US, as soon as it's put into tangible form (on a blog or elsewhere) it's technically protected by copyright. Like with any other content, registering is optional, but has its own benefits. www.copyright.gov has plenty of information on registrations if you go that route (again, if in the US).
Ummm no. When the content is written, it's automatically copyrighted. It has nothing to do with whether it's registered or what the publishing format is (book, magazine article, blog, etc.).
that may be true in United States.. is the same true in other countries? or are the other countries web laws also under US patent laws?
Some bloggers take it seriouly and might copyright whatever unique content they have. Some just put it because it would "Scare" some copycats away.
It has nothing to do with "patent laws" which are not the same as copyright. And yes, that's the US law, but not only the US - for example, it's the same in the UK and India I believe. Anyone should certainly check their own government's rules, but that's how it works in many countries. And gjvblack, they don't have to to actively copyright anything. That's the point. It doesn't matter if they even put a copyright symbol on the site - it's still automatically protected, and it's still illegal to copy it or create derivative works from it without permission.
i got the point.. only thing which worries me is different countries have different laws.. i need to consult a local lawyer to find out more about laws in here in india!!
You'll find a lot of the basic information in the India link from my last post (which, unless I'm mistaken, if a government-issued guide on the subject). That should get you started, and then yes, talking to a lawyer to clarify things is always a good idea.
Not to mention, you 'may' (emphasis supplied) have some form of copyright protection when you post your material that is hosted on a US server. But then again, I think the best response to your question would be from an attorney who specializes in this.
Out of curiosity, why are you asking? Do you plan on using the content of US blogs in an indian blog?
International Copywrite protects your work, some countries listen to this less than others though... If your work is duplicated in Russia on a Russian server for example you are screwed!
Oh? And what international authoritative governing body says that? As jhmattern said, it's the case for U.S. But try enforcing that on maybe Iraq or Russia, and see if it gets anywhere.
this is an issue.. i don't think so international copyrights can be enforced all around the globe as lot of issues are already there!!
