[FONT=&quot]I had this domain name for over one year now (out of the sandbox). I did not do anything with it. It literally had 1 page that said: "Domain name for sale etc". I had 1 to 3 backlinks on Google, Yahoo and MSN. PR0 and one indexed page. The traffic was none existent.

So i filled it up with content and started submitting stories to digg and shoutwire. One story a day.

6th-11th of may none of the stories make it to the front page.
12th of may i get to the front page of Shoutwire. Later on that day a different story makes it to the front page of Digg. Adsense brought me a whooping $4.21
13th of may i get hit by the main flood of visitors. Adsense brings me a staggering £6.91 Unfortunately my server decided to overload for around 6 hours. Because i also host other sites on it, i end up losing around $20 (adsense from these sites)
    14th - 18th
    After-effects

So was it worth it in terms of money? No! I have actually lost money as a result.

    Backlinks

I now show over 2500 backlinks both in MSN and Yahoo (google obviously needs time to update). Most of these backlinks are on good quality, related sites. On top of that all of these are natural backlinks.

In the last 7 days i have already had over 1000 visitors from various search engines with Google being the top referrer.

This is what happened in the short run. I am planning to post another update here later on with long term results.

Hope this was an interesting read.

Thanks for the share. What i find most interesting of all is that is Digg is VERY competative! So, I'm think here are some of the things you could have done:

    1. Post a TON of articles go for the volume. Even have them written off-shore ....nope...You gotta have quality..won't work.
    2. You have some DARN good insights to share. You may even be a "known" person in some circles and your name helped.

And then I can think of some grey hat ideas, not really too grey, like finding the days hot story and submitting it from your site with a better title ...after YOU did the writing from the FACTS... and maybe your TITLE is better then the one from the authority sites. That's plausable.

Bottom line is, what the heck did you submit that was so very unusual and popular? Care to tell?

No, i did not cheat. Nor did i spam Digg with tonns of stories. I just studied the stories that did really well, found a particular niche and then targeted my stories at that particular niche.

I think they have quite a complex algo behind it. My first story got promoted to the front page after around 60 diggs. The second one was after 25 diggs or so.

Kudos to you! You really do have bragging rights. I think it's very hard to find the right "angle" and write something truly fresh and powerful enough to make it there.

lol No, my articles were not that great either. I did not write anything amazing. You will see when i reveal the url :D

Oh and the point of this thread is not to brag about beating digg but about:

    1) Do natural backlinks on related sites give you better SERP?
    2) Looking at backlink development via digg like networks.

By the way. Someone has reported my url on digg so now i can no loger use it. (Dont post stories related to politics, those with a different view will report your story as lame)

That is a nice little harvest of backlinks you ended up with.

I'd be interested in hearing more about that- was there a particluar type of article that gets more interest?

Don't you think Social Bookmarking web is like a link farm? At least the way it's look.

And what google do to those spammer web on Social Bookmarking?

and if it's not it yet, it's changing into link farm... I think furl.net was already hijacked by hc-spammers.

Anyway.. story on topic seems to be interesting, when you actually got people digging your stories, instead of going with old-skool "brownload for download - scratch my back and I scratch yours" method.

Props for that, even thought I'm not sure what sense this all makes. :D

Yes there is. I cant tell you which though. May be in my ebook he he he. Tip: Dont submit anything political. Your url will get reported.

    yulia

And odd article now and then is not really spamming. By the way, its looks like Google reacts nicely to dugg sites. All those sites that got dugg now get a bunch of traffic from Google.
