Is it good to buy old domain or I should start from scratch?

    Hi All,

I got an offer from a webmaster, who wants to sell me his website for $200. The current PR of domain is zero and the age of site is 2+ years. Can anyone suggest should I buy this domain or not? And if I buy, can I be successful in earning some PR in future or not by using common seo techniques? The domain name is keyword based. Looking for help in this regard.

    Thanks.

If domain name is nice you should get it and ofcourse if you think your site can afford 200$ dont think you can afford it think in a way that will your site return that money? If it is an good or i can say mid size project then go for it but naa for small site.As you will be paying 200$ just to start up.

I always prefer keyword based domains and if the website has already relevant content to what you will put on it and if the website is visible in archive.org, then I would say it is definitaly worth the money.

PR has nothing to do with it, so you can get PR by normal ways.

    Thanks for useful suggestions.

Do I need to change the content? Remember, the site has already relevant content.

    Thanks

Unless the domain name is relevant to your new idea just start from scratch. I am so sick of seeing all these ridiculous sites with totally unrelated domain names, it is just for short-term dropped domain scammers.

example: gambling site = www. BobFranks2006.net or health site = www. LatinFest2004.org

I agree with what most of you are saying about domains, however when using a domain name for your main product, service, and or business you should use your name for the domain name. Example: http://yourname.com. Doing so will brand your name and by doing so, you will build more trust with your prospects.

If you buy expired domains just for reselling its okay. If you wish to develop that for your business you have to check for multiple times whether it is black listed or banned or used for spamming etc.

If you find a nice keyword from expired domains with out any faults. Then it will be easy to build your online business just acquire it
