When leaving comments on blogs.....

When leaving comments on blogs how much does it matter if you put your name down in the "Name" field, rather than your keywords.

We all know that putting your name will get your comment approved more but as far as link building is concerned, is it that big of a deal?

Its a name field for a reason. It doesn't say "keyword spam here".

On any of my sites, if someone keyword spams I delete their comment and flag it as spam, hopefully making it harder for them to comment anywhere else. I also IP block them - not just from commenting, but from even viewing my sites.

I see no reason to allow anyone else to try and piggyback on my investments, If I build a site up and it ends up with a high PR (and the high PR is never an aim, just a by-product of getting good serps), then I don't want a bunch of lamers keyword spamming and messing up my comments.

I understand what you are saying but it still doesn't answer the questions I asked.

In answer to your question then, no its not a big deal given that 99% of blog comments are nofollow anyway.

IMO it can. The good old Adobe ranking 1st for 'click here' comes to mind as so many ppl anchored with it.

If you can't blantly use your site or keys, try and be subtle..and use something that could be a name, but is close to a key.

    Go for it.:D

I've mastered the art of appearing to be using a name, but using something that is a half ass key, I guess it all can depend on niche.

Mind you if I see others blatantly spamming I do as well with no remorse:D

the problem is if you see other people blatantly spamming, then the chances are the site is already burnt beyond repair with google anyway, and you're not getting any benefit from it.

@Vic - That isn't gonna stop them from wasting their time spamming the blogs. Human spam is about as bad as bot spam now-a-days. I will bet that 99% of them do not bother to check if their comments were approved or not, but they will still come back not knowing at all.

I agree it won't stop people wasting their time or stop bots visiting. But I assume from Bbau01's reply it looks like he's doing it manually. If you can clearly see a site has been spammed to death then I wouldn't even waste 30 seconds writing a comment - the site is toast already if there is the usual spam crap all over it.

I'm not sure I understand. If your name spot isn't linking, then there wouldn't be a backlink at all, and of course then it would be worthless yes (if thats what you mean).

I prefer using my Name rather than keywords... it'll make the comment look more natural and more chances to get it approved.

I actually have a blog where I removed the entire field for adding a url in the comment. I still get many many comments posted. Spam happens but it is relatively rare. I usually have 50 to 75 approved comments every day.

My view is that the comments are for the visitors to share their opinions and discuss the post/story. If all a person is out for is a link then they will have no interest in my blog.

When we run the links increase campaigns, the links should be natural and there is no problem in using the ur name in place of the keyword.

I've tried posting comments with my main keyword but with no success . It's not worth the effort to post with your name . So I'll stick to directories .

Life Of Brian! I'd rep you for the comment, but I already gave ya green in some other random thread because your posts are top notch, lol ;)

In a matter of speaking, Vic DID answer your original question....and here is why.

Chances are that will get your comment NIXED rather then approved, so that means that you'll not get a backlink at all. Is it a big deal? Likely not, but you can bet your life you'll not be getting a backlink from my blog, or from most of the blogs I visit, and as already mentioned, from the ones that will apporove such a thing are generally not worth reading and will have a good chance of already being discounted by Google and other SE's.

However, more important then the name field is the comment itself.

How to get backlinks from forums and blogs and not be labeled as a spammer

You want the linkback, as that is important, but going about it the wrong way will not do much for your cause. Be a member of the community you are posting to, and you'll find that your click through traffic on such a site will greatly increase, as will the number of comments actually approved.

But again, if the blog owner does not mind your name being Biggus Dickus, then I guess that is simply fantastic for your viagra site ;)
