Planning to move my indian website from US server to Indian server.. because I have heard that my search engine rankings will improve (for google.co.in) if hosted in india. Has anyone tested it yet? Will SE rankings be affected temporarily after I shift the server??
If the down time is kept to a minimum you should not see a major change in your ranking but be prepared for a minor flux. As for ranking in co.in, yes it should increase after the website is moved to a server physically based in India. It is however not going to happen overnight.
I called up a few hosting companies in India, but looks like most of them provide service here but have server in USA/Canada. Can anyone suggest me a hosting in India where they have the server situated here?
I agree that it is not a major factor. Focus on getting quality links and the rankings will come. Analyze the back links of the websites that are ranking better than you on google.co.in
Search engines gives the importance to the hosting server location. And it will affects the Position in the SERP. We have to host our website, depending on our business location.
Try out Netlynx, mtnl, rediff hosting as most of these have servers in India. Also it does not really effect on the server location for the website's ranking and dont worry its just a rumour.
US companies are more experienced in providing service, I will stick with them for now. Indian companies do not seem to respond well when I call then and their online support sucks.
