How do I get my commenters to go to my forum?

Hi. I own a Vista tips site that receives about 3k uniques daily and 5-6k impressions.

I get about 20-30 comments a week. I recently opened up a new forum and I tried to migrate the commenters into my forum but I can't seem to do it. I only get about 1-2 forum posts a week.

Can you guys offer me some help, tips,or advice? Thanks.

Put the "Top Commentators" widget in your vista site..it will encourage the readers to comment (or) run a contest.
How much traffic your forum gets daily?

I've tried the widget it isn't much help. I'm not sure why people are rejecting to go to the forum and would rather post in the comments and never find out if they get responded.

Also, some people do register for bbpress but nvr make a post?

[rant]Having a big forum with a high member count doesn't mean you are going to make big bucks in revenue. I see so many people obsessed in increasing their member count while neglecting the overall site.[/rant]

    Some suggestions:

    - Create a sub-forum with premium content which requires the visitor to register to see the content.

    - Offer a free ebook when they register AND make one post.

    - At the homepage, display the last 10 threads created from the forum so people know there is a forum.

    - Probably the most effective is starting small weekly contests with some prizes (offer a book, some money, premium membership...).

Personally, my plan would be something like:

I would do some offline advertising, talking to people who I know aren't web-savvy to check the forum (without saying it was mine, so If they didn't liked the forum they would give me honest feedback).

Check the most frequent problems users have with Vista and write the best articles with tons of images in order to attract backlinks and rank well in the serps, aka become an authority site.

At he end of each article, place a link to your forum.

I would also only open the forum when I had at least 1000 daily visitors.
