Great idea. If we are looking for a writer that does a little bit of everything, what category do they fall under? Content creator?

There you are! I'll be on the lookout for the profile. I'm anticipating a public release in about two weeks if anyone out there is looking to procrastinate although you can always add yourself later.

A great question. I picked the categories and limited you to three on purpose. There are surely three categories you like the most, so list those three. The point of the site is to help webmasters find the "expert" writers on a particular topic. This is your chance to make a stand on the types of writing you'd love to do. If you write keyword articles, you can pick SEO/SEM or Internet since that covers that style of writing.

If you're worried this will limit your assignments, you don't need to fret. This is not your only marketing tool available, and three general categories will bring you plenty of interested parties once the site is successful.

I currently have two or three profiles that aren't uploaded to the site. That is because my dear husband has decided that my Wordpress format just isn't good enough, so he's converting the site to Joomla.

Once he is finished with the update, I'll get everyone updated and be ready for any additional profiles that come in.

Wordpress has a lot of very nice professional themes available all over the place, it's good for that, which is not (yet) the case of most other CMS.

 

Nice idea. I really liked it. But still I believe that the implementation may be better. Cause its not such a directory feeling. Its feel like many bloggers are blogging about theirselves. Though this also makes much sense.
Will take on it later.

Boy is it a breath of fresh air to see something like this! I was just thinking this morning, after editing a horrid article and glancing at an Adsense ad that has Triond blogging platform advertising for "writers."

I totally agree with the 20 minute thing. It takes me 20 minutes of staring at the screen just to figure out a good beginning point! And I edit for at least an hour, even a 500 word article.

Quality isn't and shouldn't be cheap for artisans of any profession, writing included. If you hire people who will work for pennies you get exactly what you pay for.

This is a terrific idea, Rebecca. I'm not going to send you a profile thingummie just yet, myself, as things are far too busy right now to think of taking on new clients, but have passed along your URL to a couple of really talented freelancers who will be interested - you know, just to give you a little more work to do - you've made some great choices about what information to collect and how to present it, how to circumvent the spam or slanted promotion risks, etc., and that's a real "sales point" for your directory. Cheers!

How is the growth of the site coming? Are the numbers right around what you expected?

 

The site is steadily growing although we haven't had much time of late to work on it. My little family is on the way out of town just a few hours before Hurricane Ike. They are expecting a 20 foot storm surge in my coastal area, so I'm under a mandatory evacuation. I'll get caught up on new profiles and give some updates in 3-5 days when we have power again and I see what I'm dealing with house-wise.
