I have 2 sites with same PR , site A has around 200 pages indexed in Google , site B has around 700 pages indexed. Both sites have same link structure, the weird thing is site A receives same traffic level as site B. My understanding is site B should receive much more traffic than site A since it has more content than site A. What can possibly cause this?. Maybe I should get more inbound links to inner pages of site B? How important is inbound link to inner pages?. Thx
It depends on your niche and content of course. Some keywords have a much bigger search volume. Even if these two sites are in the same niche, most probably you're targeting different keywords.
Getting links to the inner pages is a good way to raise the pr of those pages. It will also help with google indexing your inner pages
Internal linking is very important. Google scans your site, and if you don't show him what is important for your visitors, he will put moderate weight on all the words. In this way you'll be targetting many words with low power. Usually, not from a SEO point of view, the most important page in a site will get the most inner links, by natural design. Now the problem is when you have a bad site structure, and you don't promote anything. You won't have good results. So, before starting any new site, at least from now on, invest more time in the internal linking. Be shure the visitors get fast to the important content, an Google will certainly see this and help them, and you.
Hotel A has 200 rooms and is located in the heart of New York, Hotel B has 700 rooms but is located somewhere in the desert of texas, according to you which hotel is getting more visitors ? it's not about more content or higher pr, it's about better "placement" in the search engines and better targeted keywords.
What is mentioned by funkymario is absolutely correct. It does not necessarily means the one with more content should have more traffic. Take this scenario for example: site A has lower number of pages but all of them have higher search engine ranking compared to site B with more pages but all the pages rank lower in search results. Of course it's a clear cut case whereby site A should have more visitors. Improving the internal and external link structure would help. Hope that is clear.
pretty much nailed it on the head. You could have 200,000 pages of low quality nothing pages that are still indexed, but a highly relevant and quality blog that has 1,000 pages could blow the other sites out of the water when it comes to traffic
