If you dont know how to do it, I would recommend not even think about doing it!

Web hosting is a lot more competitive than what you imagine. Using any type of advertisement(ppc, afiliate, cpm) the cost of acquiring a customer would be around 1 year 1.5 year revenue generated from the customer. Add to that the cost of equipment, technical support and overheads.

This is an extremely competitve field and only if you understand the industry and technology well enough, you must think about it. Do a SWOT analysis before you jump into it.

There are several components which you need to cover.

    1) Marketing which would include advertising your web hosting services. You need to be able to pit yourself against the tens of thousands of other web hosts out there who may be more established and bigger than you.

    2) Technical support - Since your customers may be relying on you to keep their website up all the time, you will need to have the technical know-how as to how to troubleshoot and optimize the system. You will also need the Customer Relationship skills involved. Websites are 24/7 and you need to ensure that you are around 24/7 to respond to your customer queries and needs. Remember that when something goes wrong, your customers would get very panicky.

The Web hosting market is extremely competitive and most new entries would probably not turn a profit after a few years and most may not survive through the first year. The profit margin is going to be very low and the work is going to be very hard. If you are not going to hire a few people, you probably would need to sacrifice your time and probably sleep to support the business.

Buy your self a reseller account. I wouldn't recommend that you start a hosting company since you're posting in a forum asking how to do it.

Yeah get yourself a reseller account from iwhic (the best reseller hosting) PM him to ask for prices etc.

You will need to have a good name for the service and good tech support and advertising to pull the punters in.

    Good Luck

What is the point? There are so many about that you are going to have a very small piece of the pie. Personally I think the more people that have the same idea as you the more the industry is going to suffer. This of course is only if you actually get some customers.

Exactly, I agree with you. Every forum that can relate to hosting somehow has numberous posts a day asking how to start a hosting business - most of them having no idea what they're doing and it destroys the hosting market.

Well it only costs like $25 a month to get a reseller pack so why don't you just give it a shot? Make sure you find a good reseller package though. You can Google find some award winning hosts.

As other have said, a Reseller account is the best way to start as you have no previous experience.

Have you made a website or used a hosting provider before? Even being a customer of another company gives you a good insight into what works and what doesn't as a business.

One thing a lot of people will agree with is that the hosting market is extremely saturated, you will need a niché in order to gain business.

    Its pretty easy.
Buy a new server and acquire cpanel license/WHM/etc
You are ready to sell your own hosting

    Nope your wrong.
You have to know how to manage a server or get someone to do it for you.
You also have to provide support.
Unless you have employees you will have to be online almost 24/7 once you get a good customer base.
