Wade, it's her actions that make it an issue. One of the 2 or 3 keystones of her campaign rests on this very issue, in fact - so I cannot understand how her betraying her public statements regarding her eschewal of federal pork, while embracing it in practice, isn't a legitimate bone to pick. OK. I guess I simply see a fact, and have a legitimate concern with it, and believe the issue raises an honorable question to her candidacy - particularly in light of her public packaging. Can you provide examples? If you're asking me if I would seek out something else to "feed on," (and no, I am not claiming this is what you are saying, but in case you are), Wade, no, there wouldn't be. I sincerely wish for a spirited debate on the issues. As it stands now, part of those issues involve her actions while mayor, and governor, that don't square with her public line. I'm seeing different polls, I guess, since as I posted on another thread, the apparent tactic - to gain the support of Clinton women supporters - is backfiring, at least as of now: Rasmussen - gender and Palin selection Whether her candidacy will, at the end of the day, be a general boon or bane for his chances will have to wait. I predicted a backlash among women, and so far, that is being borne out; I predict a backlash generally, the more that is discovered about her, and will simply wait. It is interesting to note that Rasmussen reports is showing a bump for Obama of several days - over the course of the RNC convention. An essential dead heat a month ago, Obama has crept up to his former spread over McCain, +5. 9/2, interestingly enough, and every day after this week, Obama has realized gains on McCain. (Source: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/general_election_match_up_history Thanks, Lightless - another one added to the Amazon cart. Only about 3 years out on all the reading to do. By inference, you are saying Obama is not smart, which you've said several times but never supported. Can you explain to me how you drew this conclusion, on a guy who was once the nation's top law student (while at Harvard Law), and President of the Harvard Law Review? Particularly since the sources I've seen estimate Obama's I.Q. from as low as 150 to 166-170 (genius level, with a Stanford-Binet IQ Certification, at least as reported), you must have some solid reasons for calling the man stupid or dumb, several times. May I see them?
The book is interesting and thought provoking to be sure. It also speaks on the gulf between the result of opinion polls and actual election results. Says people might lie about their preferences [in polls] to present themselves in better light.
One of the reasons I am never a fan of relying on "thermometer" statistics, or other variants on "feelings," preferring behavior - e.g., voting patterns - as more solid material to go on.
That makes a lot of sense. The last thing we need to do is force people into having children they don't want to have. That's a horrible situation for everyone. It disgusts me the way Republicans care so much more about fetuses than they do actual children.
I can't agree with this statement at all, Zibblu. I trust Sarah Palin, and other people with an extreme position opposing abortion, believe they do it out of love for children generally, and they usually do, like anyone else. I don't think abortion is an easy issue for any of us to talk about, as it touches on a complex world with no easy answers. Personally I don't think it serves any of us to demonize the "other side" over demons that may not exist.
Maybe, but i hope people don't vote for her side merely because she is good looking . But apparently good looks aren't enough.
Abortion shouldn't be used as birth control. Nothing personal, but you seem like the kind of guy that supports abortion and opposes capital punishment. Abortion is something that disgusts me. More people need to learn the truth. A fetus is a human being that wants to live.
Um .... i get your valid point. But we could do without those pics for the sake of squeamish people across the world.
For birth control,... sigh. It is troublesome that birth control is the #1 reason women commit murder through abortion. It is also odd that people can be pro-murder-through-abortion but against capital punishment.
the people that support the right of the mother, do this for social reasons. social situation regarding capital punishment is totally different, and does not contradict the other. the real question is how do the people that are against abortion based on their religious belief support war and capital punishment. the reasoning is the same from a religious point of view.
His economic plan to increase the tax on the rich is not smart. I think that plan is very stupid. Tax increases to the upper class has a trickle effect. Do you think Obama has a smart economic plan? You can bask this November and for the following 4 years.
We seem to be at another language difficulty, Homebiz. Twice, you've referred to Obama himself as "stupid," in so many words, and said nothing else. Which I found myself scratching my head at, given his obvious brains. It appears you have always meant to say, "his economic plan is stupid."
Maybe I chose the wrong words. If I offended you or Obama I apologize. "Stupid is not normally a word I use, it must be the safety of the internet that lead to the poor choice of words. His economic plan and lack thereof is driving me bonkers. The economic conditions in the US is my #1 concern and it bothers me that Obama does not have a real plan and its all talk.
I disagree, but that's fine, and no, I'm not offended, really - he's not my brother. Again, I was sincerely puzzled by your referring to him as "stupid," when if he is anything, well - the man ain't an imbecile.
