Partisan Profile for TV News Audiences

Fox News has the most balanced audience. This doesn't really surprise me much considering what I've been hearing the last few weeks from some of the other stations.

Being that this is a webmasters forum, there is some other interesting information about search engines and things inside of the report. :)

other than Fox, there seems to be a massive balance in favour of the Democrats for all them... maybe if Republicans watched more current affairs then they wouldn't vote for Bush / McCain

Audience does not equate to the news coming from the station.
The only thing I see from these numbers in all honesty is the fact that the republicans appear 'without the raw numbers no way to know for certain' to watch less news than democrats, making of course the one station that is far to the right compared to the others having more republican viewers.

How was looking at the numbers for what they are 'creative'?

That was a very creative spin. How in the world could you possibly get an idea that "there must be less Republicans that watch the news" from this data. Looks to me as if the data suggests that Fox is, as they say, "Fair and Balanced".

The only one doing spin is you. Nowhere does the viewership suggest what form of news the station broadcasts.

Lets see where do I come up with this.

If you add up the percentages.
    Republicans get a 118
    Democrats get a 220

Granted Fox has more viewers, that is why I said without the total raw numbers you can not say for certain. Almost double being democratic on the percentage basis per station added up surely suggests it's very possible Democrats are more of an audience than Republicans does it not.

Fair and balanced, talk about 'spin'

There are almost as many democrats that watch Fox as Republicans.
All the other stations are watched by mostly democrats.
    How is that spin?

Jazz, I think what Grim is saying is that the numbers suggest more Democrats than Republicans are watching television news. Obviously, not a ton can be concluded from this - it doesn't take into account print news sources, for instance - still, the numbers are what they are. Presuming the data collection was statistically sound, given the limits of the sampling, television news has a greater percentage of Democrat than Republican viewership, with the exception of Fox News.

Edited to add: I see the PDF is a study with far broader implications, and news sources. Looking forward to taking a deeper look. Thanks for the source, PHP.

The reason for this is the same reason that liberals listen to Rush Limbaugh on occasion. We want to know what kind of propaganda these people are feeding to their sheeple. Conservatives don't seem to have as much of that curiosity factor. Of course that's true about life in general. That's what defines a conservative on a basic level, lack of curiosity.

PHP, FYI - it looks like you have a double thread - I was wondering what's up, as I thought I posted something, but it didn't show here - showing instead on the other thread. You may want to ask mods to close the other thread.

    Anyway, my post:

Great resource, PHP. A couple of very interesting things stick out to me from my first review of the study.

In general, Democrats tend to seek more news than Republicans, and it isn't just evening television news, but news from all sources. Across the three modal segments, "Traditionalists," "Integrators" and "Newsers":

    Dems are seeking more news:

    Traditionalists - Dems, 36%, Rep's, 25%

    Integrators - Dems, 40%, Rep's 24%,

    Net-Newsers - Dems, 38%, Rep's 29%.

    (Page 45).

The above data that you post, more Dems watch evening news. Also interesting to me, is that the percentage gap between Dems watching evening news and Reps watching evening news is growing:

Still digging - great resource, PHP, thanks.

Fox is pretty balanced in the news area. Studies have confirmed this in the past, though they are the favorite of the liberals to attack for being right of left.

MSNBC is probably the worst. I switch around a lot, especially during the debates. I swear, it looked like "doom and gloom" last night on MSNBC after the Palin speech.

The media is too unbalanced. ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN. All left leaning and very much giving favoritism to Obama. That's not really a surprise though, they did the same for Kerry as well. It is what it is.

I see both of you answered it for me ;)

It simply to me shows me democrats watch more news and are more willing to see both sides than republicans. Where you see it as a vindication and area to trump Fox news. I see it as a blow to Republicans as being extremely narrow minded, unwilling to watch all sides, and not wishing to know what is going on in the world as much as democrats. This actually troubles me to be honest.

Well that's odd. I think that it looks like the majority of Democrats flock to MSNBC and CNN to avoid any positive information that would support any Republican point of view. Almost as if those Democrats stagger thru life wearing blinders.

Then there are the Democrats that tune in to Fox to hear unbiased reporting along with the majority of Republicans.

Pretty easy to spin it both ways.

The problem is I'm not trying to 'spin it' I'm looking at those things called 'facts' and using 'logic' to come to a conclusion, no matter if I like the conclusion or not.

In this case I do not like the conclusion, I can not believe so few republicans watch the news. I remember growing up it was mostly the conservatives who watched news, or so I thought, now I see using those scary things called 'facts' that is not the case.

The only 'spin' being done is by those trying to trump this up as a pro Fox news being 'fair and balanced' when it says nothing of the sort, it's a bad light in republicans and lack of wanting to know what's going on in the world, as well as a lack of willingness to see all sides of the picture. Pretty sad really, sorry that the facts do not stand for what you wish they would.

Fox would be a lot more unbalanced if they got rid of all the democrats they have on all the time. I grow tired of seeing all the whining liberals on Fox all the time. The least they could do, is get rid of the angry left and actually become what so many accuse them of. I don't think that's asking too much :p

Really sad to see such a blatant angry liberal who bases his positions on whatever is the latest popularity contest continue to sell his soul to the devil under the jokingly laughable guise of (once again, always making everything about himself) that he's just trying to look at the facts! LMAO! Wish the big headed putz would just put me on ignore like he keeps saying he has. Boy couldn't see all sides of a two dollar bill with 3d glasses on.

It's very blatantly pro Republican, people like O'Reilly and Hannity see to that.

FOX Noobs is the worst and most biased mainstream media channel in the US by a long way.

As for the rest of your rambling in the quote I'm not sure what you're babbling on about.

Do you mean Hannity and Colmes? Conservative and Liberal? What's unbalanced about that?

Did you see OReilly's interview with Obama tonight? Did you think that was slanted?
