I agree with the posts above and would like to elaborate on the football example if I may Internet Marketing can be seen as the Team.. It's what includes such things as SEM / E-Mail Marketing / Social Networking / Advertising etc. SEM - Search Engine Marketing - Can be seen as the coach. Search Engine Marketing is the practise of making websites more visibile for Search Engine Result Pages (SERP's). SEM includes practises such as SEO and PPC * Organic Search (on-page SEO / off-page SEO) is the optimization of the website so that search engines have a better understanding of what your page is about and ranking them naturally for your site content. * Paid Search (PPC/PPI/PPV) basically paying for your rankings in search engines. So in my opinion what it comes down to is this.. Search Engine Optimisation is part of Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Marketing is part of Online Marketing. Hope this helped
