Read up about why the US is at war with terrorism in Afghanistan. I think if a terrorist gets blown up now that is for the good of the world. It could possibly save many other lives for the price of one who is focussed on destruction. The terrorist bombs in London and terrorist attacks on the world trade center are with the sole intention to cause death and destruction. The US and UK don't cause meaningless death and destruction. The bombs they drop save many more lives. Which would you say is better a bomb dropped on afghan terrorists saving thousands of lives from another september 11th or ignoring the terrorists and letting thousands more die? The closest thing I've had happen was seeing two towers fall from the sky live on television. It felt like it was in my backyard at the time. I'm not one to necessarily support the Iraq war, but going to Afghanistan was an honest move to try and catch the man responsible for the attacks that we just faced. The world was on our side at that point. Its funny how quickly people forget.
My CO just returned from 2 years of duty as a trainer for the Afghanistan Police (Ronco). He was telling me how well the native Afghan's could handle a gun. What more amazing was the ages of the men he trained were as young as 14.
Exactly what I have tried to say. Afghanistan is a genuine attempt to stop terror. The Iraq war, is a grey area for me. No weapons of mass destruction, but lots of oil. Could be true, but who knows.

More than a million civilians have been killed in Iraq. What about them? Bush didn't care what happened to Osama bin Laden. As soon as the Afghan puppet government was formed, US authorities signed a contract to supply Caspian Sea Gas through a pipeline through Afghanistan. Then, they turned to Iraq for oil. How many wars has US been into since the end of WW II? There are so many more covert and overt operations that I just can't list all of them here... I suggest you check out the book Rouge State for more information on innumerable coup attempts, assassinations, regime changes, bombings, etc carried out by CIA.
Afghanistan was necessary to stop the iron-fisted ruthless oppressive rule of taliban. But Iraq is certainly a grey area as simstar said.
