If you get many blog comments to your posts, will it hurt your ranking or help. I am not talking about spam comments, I'm talking about pure content comments from users ?

Are you referring to posting comments on other blogs? Or receiving comments on your blog? Please get a little clearer.

Each link from your blog will decrease your ranking. You can use "nofollow" attribute to prevent Page Rank leak.

It won't make any difference I wouldn't think. I assume you mean search engine ranking? If not and your talking about PR then ignore what I just said :D

    I agree with glen.

It won't affect your rankings but it will dilute your PR.

The comments themselves can help a lot. It is extra unique text that may contain more key phrases. Plus it updates the content to make it fresh each time a comment is made. Also it could make the post more interesting, enticing more people to link to it.

It can hurt you a bit if the comments have outgoing links without the 'nofollow' attribute. If you do have 'nofollow' then you should be fine.

I believe you meant to say 'dofollow' attribute (which by the way doesn't exist, each is a dofollow by default).

Again, it won't affect the rankings but the PR

I think they will actually help if you can police it

    1. No follow debatable, as no one will find it otherwise
    2. Niched topic
    3. Outbound links to good sites, is what the web is all about.
If the site is good, let the link stay, believe in your judgement and your site.

It always helps. It'll increase the bond between the readers and the author..and it'll increase the repeated TRAFFIC.
Who cares the Pagerank..? Traffic is important.

It helps... It only proves the interaction between the blogger and the reader...

That is an evidence that someone some how, people reads your blog.

Even I am the one who are being link in, my blog wouldn't be hurt as long as the link is related to my blog category.

    Receiving comments on my blog.

Anyhow, I thought google liked outgoing links that were on topic. I was thinking of allowing do-follow if the link in question was relevent.

Having comments on your website is a thing you should be proud of, people like what you write! Now to answer you question, comments don't effect the search engine rankings and are not even remotely related. If you meant Page Rank, then the issue can be easily resolved using the 'no follow' attribute.

If you want to target traffic than dont use the nofollow tag in your blog comment.

If the blog is dofollow then page rank will be distributed and your website/blog will also get the advantages of PR juice. If the blog is nofollow then your website will get no any advantage and in both case my ranking will not hurt.
