Spamming is so effective that even a small percentage of the millions of emails sent replied. It makes the spammer very rich.
Spam=Unsolicited bulk email. Commercial email that the person never signed up for. It's not needed, but it will exist as long as people continue buying from it. In the future, you're going to see control of the spam market move over even further into Eastern Europe as more and more of the US guys get busted. It's not so much the spam email that gets them in trouble, it's what has become necessary TO spam(botnets, money laundering, etc). Also you're going to see a rise in "fast flux hosting" - It's hard to find places to host domains that get spammed to. Back in the day Asia used to be a hotbed for it, but even now they're cleaning up. Fast flux hosting is a botnet(virus infected computers) configured to work as web servers. The spammer controls the DNS servers for the domains and rotates the IPs the domain resolves to every 15 minutes to make sure it cannot get taken down. I am not a spammer, but I've known many in my day. This is the general idea I got from them.
