My Money is Gone :(

Now on paypal I disputed because a programmer ran away with my money. Paypal said the "claim was granted" but it also showed something saying

    Status

We were able to recover $0.00 USD from the seller and processed a refund to you.

So what does that mean? I cannot get the money back? I contacted paypal and they made a long email saying how they froze his paypal account. What does freezing their paypal do if they can just make a new one?

Could someone advise me on what to do next.

    For future reference! Block these emails;

I cant tell for sure, but once he had withdrawn the funds, then even if paypal freezes or limits his account, they have nothing to take back

This is the reason why I hate PayPal. I had also been scammed nearly 400$ and till date PayPal has done nothing.

A similar situation happened to me last month. There was a guy here who sold the same imaginary product to myself and another member (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=970346) and by the time my claim was settled (in my favor) his account was already bone dry. Not much you can do really but learn a lesson about how you deal with people around here.

I am no fan of Paypal, but to be honest, they are no worse than the major credit card companies, or even the banks. And they all tend to favor the buyer over a seller, if possible. I can not even remember the number of times that I have been ripped off by eBay and other buyers while Paypal and/or the credit card company made it easy for the scammer to do so.

It sucks when dealing with paypal.com because they never really honor the other person. I would escalate the problem all the way to the top. Also, I would use outsource companies to have money in an escrow account. But, in this case you need to have all of your emails documented and share them with paypal administration. I have searched sites prior to exchanging money now to see what kind of repuation the person has. I would report him/her to all consumer complaint sites.

I was a powerseller on ebay for 5 mths this year, And I started shipping international orders. And I pay for postage at the post office. And the USPS says that a customs form # is a tracking # you just have to call any post office. Well 2 international orders opened disputes on me for xbox 360's and I gave paypal the customs # and they said I will win because that is a good enough proof of shipment. Well 2 weeks later after I have $600 on hold due to these false claims. And they both win against me and paypal says customs form #'s are not good enough! WHAT! They told me 2 weeks before that it was good enough! we'll you all know how the rest goes, Once you lose $600 and your account is -$120 anytime anyone on ebay will make a purchase you cannot refund them because your money was already stolen. Then they open dispute left and right. Close your ebay account. Charge you all your listing fees. And drive you deep in debt!!!! If they ever dare to take this to court my lawyer tells me its open and shut in my favor. I have trackable proof of all my shipments. But it does not help me get out of debt with ebay and paypal even though I should not owe them anything.

    OP

I friggin hate paypal as much as the next guy but if you have to pay through paypal use an Amex. I always have and even when "i lose" a dispute with paypal I win. Of course paypal always bans that credit card number from use but I somehow manage to misplace mine in a restaurant at a convenient time and Amex, ever jiffy on the spot, sends out a new one in a day or two with a brand spanking new number to use on paypal.

    Just my .02

That means paypal can't do a thing in your case. I know because i've lost 400$ in the past, in a situation like yours.

I am no fan of paypal either. If you do a "digital transaction" you are screwed. paypal doesnt cover that. I complained because I was ripped off and they settled in the scammers favor. I sent and called continuously, I gave them threads, emails, everything I could find, and they still sided with him (Ihave a premier business account for i think 5+years or a long ass time)
I asked them if I can start scamming people like that and they said sure, its not up to them...I said that was BS!!!
I finally got the money back, but we wont go into how I did it....was with no help from paypal......

for a digital transaction, to protect yourself, you should always go to the post office and mail the client a receipt that is tracked...than when paypal asks for proof of shipment you show them the tracking! Always look out for yourself...always be overprotective...always secondguess your buyer...never feel comfotable....trust me, don't trust anyone! I got ripped off for $700 for a Gretzky rookie card on Ebay..they mailed me a blank envelope! Paypal said, it was mailed to you, we have proof, here is the tracking...if you don't like it, contact the police...ever since than, I trust NO ONE!!!

These is what happens if the site are not trusted.
Also the pay pal services used would be fake.
