I'm new both to the forum and to design work. I need some suggestions on how I can improve the following logo.

Or if anybody wishes to share there own ideas. It is for a local letting company.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks more like a pyramid, not a roof...

Yeah, I see what you mean. Luckily I didn't design the logo. Any suggestions?

Lowering the roof pitch should make it look more roof like.
Gradients aren't really great, also they aren't properly applied (the pyramid ones).
I can't see the logics behind the company name colors being black-red-black.

In fact ... there is a lot of work to do in this one. I think I'll just start from scratch.

    God. Where to start though!?

How much would people charge to come up with some ideas for a letting agent logo?

    Good idea :)

If you are not an experienced logo designer and you still your logo to be professional, hiring a designer would be a good idea and it would even be cheaper, with all the time you'd have to spend on it.

$10-$1000+ it really depends on whom you are going to hire/consult.

The minute I see that logo I think pyramid scheme

Quick 2 minute example I knocked up attached, clean and simple just using a few lines, just taking key points of how roofs are made - internal structure and the outer roof trailing over the edges

Best thing with logos is go look at your clients competition, then go look at houses structure, roofing structure and find key design points with them that you can show in your logo, then produce a range (5-6) to show to your client and get feedback from them primarily, as it's them who is paying for it not us, then show them here and we can give more feedback. Always start with a range of rough ideas and then narrow it down, otherwise you'll make more work for yourself by making "good ones" (e.g finished ones) one after another until they're happy. The first thing my clients see is pencil sketches whilst I'm sat with them, then black and white variations of their preferred ideas, only then do I start "polishing it up" so to speak. It reduces your wasted working time and saves them money

Sorry it didn't attatch properly by looks of it

Not the best example in the world, but it shows you how it looks like a roof, and if you can spend half an hour doing some research then spend 5 minutes a go on quick ones like this you'll have 6 to show you client after only an hours work, unlike spending god knows long at a time doing one full one after the other until they're happy

And if you're going to do something 3D, learn to draw and learn how light affects the shadows of a 3d object - your logo looks weird because you've just bunged some random gradients in there and not paid attention to accurate lighting
