How to block comments in wordpress?

Is there any option in wordpress to block all the comments ?
I don't want comments in my wordpress blog , I can't find the option ?
anyone know about it ?

 

I believe unchecking the "Allow people to post comments on the article" option in the Discussion tab will block comments.

 

You could also take out the comment parts in your template if you don't want to see comments at all.

Why do you want to block all comments. That's what make blogs to fantastic. But if you really want to, Mizaks' got it right. Uncheck the box and you're golden

 

Remove it from your template , use Akismet plugin for spam comments

 

I am new to Wordpress (Set up my first one 3 weeks ago) so I was very surprised to find that a total of 8 comments had been made on my blog that were completely not relevant to my "sticky post"

My blog is about watersports but the spam posts were about the UK Lottery, lesbian activities and printing services etc

Originally I thought that relevant comments would be good but now I realise there are "blog hijackers" at work who don't care about relevancy or any social rules...

I have the akismet plugin and I thought that I had it covered in "Settings" too but thanks to the previous posts I now know what to do!

I have one question, should I use or block trackbacks?

Why depend on Akismet, upgrade wordpress to the latest version and click on 'Edit Post', select the post and you'll get an option saying 'allow comments' below the main 'textbox', just uncheck it and 'update post'.

I had a look at the upgrade option but I baulked after reading about backing up wordpress files as I am afraid of touching anything php...

Whenever I see php mentioned, my instincts tell me to run! I think I have already reached my limit of understanding with pigeon HTML!

I realise I should have a backup of my blog files as a precaution but is there an easier way for a newbie?

I have so many multi-tabbed windows open on my laptop with information to be digested later that I can't take on p h p...

Since you set up your blog 3 weeks back, i guess u might be having Wordpress 3.83 or 3.84 or if you installed using your hosts's installer, they might have installed an earlier version. Whatever version it is, try this :

1) Click on Posts/Edit Post/'select a post to edit'
2) Once the editor has opened, on the right-top corner, click on 'Select Options' and place a checkmark next to 'Discussion'.
3) Now a new column called 'Discussions' should have appeared having two options with a 'checkmark' option available, namely
i) Allow comments on this post
and
ii)Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this post
4) Check or Uncheck whatever option you need and click on 'Update Post'.
This should be it.

Regarding Upgrading, its a must. The only thing that may go wrong is compatibility of a plugin which is highly unlikely. I have 40+ plugins and keep upgrading my version of WP and have had no issues till date
Upgrading will not need you to mess with php.

 

I followed your directions-it was easier than I thought having clear instructions.
Comments are definitely blocked now! I agree that having relevant comments is what blogging is all about so I thought that leaving "Comments" on would encourage visitors to support my blog with interesting and useful comments?

Now I realise that some people take advantage and just dump their ads anywhere.

That works in my version, does anyone know how to widen the widget ads pace on the right hand side in wordpress, is there an easy option or do you need to start messing around with the code?
