Hey guys I have a question how many sites can I run with the original vBulletin $180 license?

Can i run more than 1 forum with it or do I have to pay for a new one (that would be scary ).

    Thanks

One forum is enough to consume your hours. It has never been easy to manage a busy forum site. Been there. Done that.

What happens if I change hosting servers though? Can I still claim my license?

Yep. But if you change domain then you need to login to the members and change your domain details.

the license is per domain, so you can move the forum around all you want..change hosting companies a million times, doesn't matter to them, as long as its on only 1 domain per license. other than you are ok. :)

    NEW QUESTION:

Will VBulletin work fully when the hosting server doesn't allow FTP via PHP?

I disagree, its based on how you chose to run it..

not sure what you mean about this, but if the host doesn't allow FTP then you don't want them. you want a host that will be ok with PHP.

FTP is allowed but FTP via PHP is different ... e.g Joomla 1.5 uses FTP via PHP to make new directories and folders when installing stuff. My web host is really good I like their services so far.

    This is not entirely true.

Lets say you have a domain called abc.com and you install VB on it. You can not create subdomains such as forum1.abc.com, forum2.com, forum3.abc.com and install VB on each subdomain.

Also, there are way to point more then one domain name at one install of VB. But since its only installed once, that is ok.

Vbulletin does NOT need PHP to have new directory/file creation permissions on the server to run.

However if your PHP is running on "Safe Mode" (which is a restriction on server level), it can have minor functionality loses. I'd suggest finding a host which does not run PHP on safe mode if this is the case.
