Freebie Forum? Will it work??

    Hey there everyone,

Just finished a huge ASS long term project x 500 any article pack or whatever and now I've got enough funds or any website or stuff I want!

When I first started off all the funding was going to be for a freebie forum.

Basically I just wanted to run a large forum where people could find free stuff and the sort

Good idea but guess the idea isn't too popular! I mean people can easily find free stuff by Googling stuff... and the only reason why people would join is for expensive free stuff (on my behalf )

I've got enough for a Vbulletin license, web hosting and a domain name (already registered lol). Haven't purchased vBulletin yet though.

You guys think freebies is a good idea for a forums? Or should I go for something more specific e.g games/anime (All my friends like that kinda stuff :D).

    Or re-invest $$$ to make more $$$????

Dunno what to think, and my buddies don't know either

What should I do? Don't want to waste my $$$ but I don't want it to be sitting there uselessly either after I worked so hard for it.

Maybe I should go buy Call of Duty 4 via steam :D

Thanks for reading my blabble! Feel pretty happy about the finished work though.

Go Games/Anime as your friends can join which will give you a good user base.

I don't think too many, 4 or 5 active at most. I can trust a few of them to be Mods and Gmods but most of them are lazy and won't do anything unless they deem worth it!

Actually it's basically the way the world works. So I can't really think of anything special that will make them join up and start posting atm...

If its only 4-5 then I would go with a freebie forum as more people will join.

Any ideas on what I could offer as an incentive? I was thinking a Premium Megaupload account as a reward but that would slash the blood out of my funds :S

Well basically why would someone want to join a new forum that has nothing to offer right? So some kind of reward or the sort. I can't really count on people being kind enough to suddenly start posting can I :D

If you set up a forum and leave enough to hire some paid posters for a bit then you should be OK. Standard rates are $1 per 10 posts, so if you hired 10 people to do 20 posts each, then that's still only $20 for two hundred posts, and providing they have good English skills it will really kickstart your forum. Try buying link spaces, as this will drive traffic to your forum, but try and make sure you already have some decent posts on your forum or people who visit will think it's a waste of time, and they wont come back.

You can also try advertising methods that are free: go on big forums and post with your site link in your sig, advertise offline to your friends/family. Just try and spread the word to anyone and everyone on and offline. Good luck, whatever you decide to do :)

Yeah, also this would be more suited to offline, which will probably be easier to advertise.

May be an idea to have both? A section (with subsections) for physical products (samples, vouchers for shops etc), and then another section (again with subsections) for virtual products (review copies, discounts etc)

I think I'll go for the freebie forums guys. And I'll probably just incorporate games / manga into it when I can. Thanks for the ideas.

By the way does anyone know how the free manga websites like www.onemanga.com work?

Isn't it sort of illegal to release manga and free anime and stuff? It's a bit different when your hosting it.

I still have to purchase the license ... pretty scary thought. But does anyone have an answer to my anime / manga question?

for freeies forums you need to have big loads of stuffs to satisfied the visitors. for the gaming/anime you need to have latest information about them along with big collection of the classic stuffs. then you will get a lot of visitors.

It's all about the quality of the freebies you offer. If they are great webmaster stuff, you'll probably get some traffic from DP at the very least.

I have a whole load of saved up profits ready to blow. Might seem strange but I guess I'm sorta giving money away investing on a FREEBIE forum.

Try Phpbb3 initially. When the forum is developed well you can shift to VB! Don't put money with VB without being sure with the forum's success!

I think you'll get more interest and attention if you focus your subject. How about "the best free games on the web". And why not make it a blog? You can track down all the best free games and blog about them. Then maybe you can stick a forum on the back of that.
It sounds like you're interested in games, so stick with something you like and enjoy.
