    Can someone please take the time to explain the purpose and use of what a pingback for a site/blog would be?

    I get tons of them into my blogs and just don't know what to do with them.

    Standing by for good relevant valid posts.

    Thanks alot.

    :confused::confused::confused:

    Do with them wathever you want.
    You are probably using nofollow on your links anyway, so it doesn't really harm you.

    Well, pingbacks/trackbacks are used by black hatters, so most of it might be crap...

    Ping backs aren't always bad. If the site the ping is from is relevant in content to your own post then by all means leave it. If the pingback isn't relevant (click the link and it'll take you to where the ping is from) then just delete it.

    It just means that someone has linked to your post using the pingback option from their own blog. It's not harmful unless it is meant to spam you with non-relevant stuff.

    Certainly correct me or point out any negatives. I'm new here *blink blink*

    Pingbacks simply means that someone linked to the post that has the pingback. Pings are like telling an engine/site/aggregator that the site content have changed/updated. So when someone pings your post back it means that they have updated their content which is related to your post. :)

    I think you are talking about "Comment Posting" and "Blog Posting"

    how can you be so true ;) yeah she is talking about that only!! pingbacks need to be moderated as comments.. only thing is pingbacks are mostly spammed.. unless your blogs are of real high quality and generating a gr8 amount of traffic!!

    pinging a blog allows to to "notify" SEs that you have been updated your blog/s.

    Most of the blog software usually pingback posts as soon as you post.
