Hey, So i havea domain picked out that's available in both .net and .ca (i live in canada). I'll probably regsiter both, but in terms of search is there any difference between the two? Will the .net reach a broader audience when people do a search? Any help appreciated....thanks
i think .net is better. when we search in google, most first sites are in gTLD Extention, then ccTLD (country coded Top Level Domain).
extensions usually do not matter...Its your website content, not the domain extension that does the ranking. Just take Wikipedia as an example, its .org extension still rates number 1 for most search items on google....
If your targeting a local market for example Canada you will find the country code may have it's advantages. Assuming you use google for searching, do you use google.com or your local google.ca, try a few comparison searches between the two for examples of the how the country code plays it's part in the local markets.
.ca extension can help your website be higher ranked in SERP for certain words when searched from Canada.
I think major domain extensions like .com @ .net @ .info @ .org is targeted generally but local domains extension we can take example www.tl.my (.my is a Malaysian domain) so usually Malaysian are directed to Google.com.my directly and when they use Google.com.my tl.my is preferred to come out first. You can search TL add tl.my will come in first page at Google.com.my but at normal google.com tl.my will be further back. Thats called targeted traffic according to geo CCTLD. Get it? p/s-a small tq would be nice
