Couple of years back I got my AdSense amount to well over $100 a day (averaged over $120 a days for over a year and almost made $200 one day), but a lot of the money was due to thin affiliate sites (Amazon affiliate stores mostly) and when Google went out it's ways to downgrade thin affiliate content my AdSense revenue tumbled to below $50 a day (when I took 9+ months off went as low as $25 a day occasionally). Like I said above took some time off (was working, but not on my own sites so my sites suffered). Went back to working hard on my sites around April/May this year and AdSense income has steadily improved: May $36 a day June $40 a day July $52 a day August looks like low $60s a day Most of this increase is due to much better ad placement and ad colours, but what's happening this week is mostly due to new content (added new content). On Monday made just over $90 (not had a $90 day for 2 years I think). Then on Tuesday my server started playing up and revenue dropped below the months average (for hours at a time sites were down, lost around 40,000 page impressions!!!). Took until Friday to determine and fix the problem: was a MySQL issue basically crippling the server at peak times. Good news is, because this problem occurred I learnt some useful MYSQL settings, so long term sites should load faster, so should do better (always look on the bright side ) Also paid for a second server to split the load, (the day before fixing the problem of course!) paid for 2 months so guess I'll see if splitting my sites over two servers is worth the extra money (you never know, improved load times could increase revenue significantly). Fixed the problem yesterday and today AdSense is at just under $95 with a little time left today. So fingers crossed it will break the $100 today, will be close I think: almost 6am UK time here, what time does AdSense roll over? Feeling quite good at being within spitting distance of the $100 mark again and wanted to tell someone Whoo, in the time it took to write this and check last few months AdSense it's gone up to $99.19, so unless that's the end of the day $100 is almost certain. Dear SEO-Expert, Congrats on achieving this figure I also dream of this amount in a day. Currently I am at 25~ 30, my first target is to cross $ 50 mark and I hope I will do. Any way congrats in advance. Regards Tehmina
I would love to work on just my stuff but wouldnt you earn much more just working part time? Maybe in different economies 100 is huge money and I would love my adsense to do that but it wouldnt keep someone in a the US UK or Australia etc. Is the plan to run multiple sites? I seem to do like $1 a day though so maybe I am just bitter
David, whats your definition of "thin affiliate sites"? Personally I never made a website under 30 articles. 30 articles x approx. 400 words = 12000 words.
AdSense rolled over and I made $102.28 I run multiple niches, with about half the money coming from one site http://www.free-recipes.co.uk/ I bought on a whim while doing keyword research years back At the time was building a large classic literature network (which from an AdSense perspective is the worst niche ever, 6-8 cents a click!) and planned to add public domain recipe books (part of the literature network). Funny how you decide to buy some domains. I would not recommended recipes as a good AdSense niche (if it was good I wouldn't mention it, don't need more competition ), I'm lucky to make over 10 cents a click. To do well with this niche you need a LOT of traffic, my site got over 10,000 visitors yesterday (that's from over 80,000 pages with about 50K indexed in Google). This is not a good AdSense niche, you need a lot of content and decent backlinks. My eldest son thought he'd copy my success and built a recipe site using the same tools I use, but different recipes (5,000 of them) and he's made just over $3 this month! To put it into perspective I made $10.33 from another site (travel niche) from under 200 visitors, Guess what my son is doing now, yes he's building a site in a travel niche What's going to be easier, getting the site with under 200 visitors a day to 1,000 visitors a day so I can make over $50 a day from it. Or build another recipe site that will need 10,000 visitors a day to make $50 a day! The site should have 100K recipes by now, but I've had issues with the site (so many items in the database was screwing things up speed wise). Because of server problems this week** think I've finally got things working right, so going to push all the way to over 100K recipes to see what I can do with that. **Is it just me or is MYSQL default configuration rubbish? I don't like messing with server configurations if I can help it believing the default settings should be sufficient most of the time. After having to look into the MYSQL settings it looks like the default settings are unbelievably under optimised! I've had to increase some settings thousands of times higher than originally set for a server to cope with twenty odd thousand visitors a day plus Googlebot SPAM indexing thousands of pages of new content. Peak time traffic + Googlebot on steroids = crashed server! Fingers crossed I'll make $100 again today. David Law
$100 is an income which is livable with. Anyway this guys financial status is not our business anyway. It's the fact he wants to achieve $100 a day and probably did yesterday. Thats a nice figure to reach as it gives the feeling of real achievement especially when you have let yor websites slip over the last couple years. I know how you feel having myself been a high amount $xxx a day but falling to $xx a day through lack of attention to the websites. Although I was just plain lazy, you got a job lol.
It's not the number of pages/keyword count. It's where the content originates from, a thin affiliate site would be where you use the affiliates affiliate content ONLY for your content to sell an affiliate product. A classic is the Amazon XML datafeed, you can use it to make million page sites quite easily and in 2005 Google lapped these up and I was getting around 30K visitors a day from them! From Google's perspective if a site offers nothing over what the affiliate offers then why index both of them? They have Amazon indexed and ranked highly, so why index 1,000s of copies of Amazon and give them good rankings as well. Now if you can offer something the original affiliate lacks, like a price comparison, then it's no longer thin affiliate content. Easier said then done when dealing with tens of thousands of pages. You cant run a big site with mysql default settings, at the moment its giving me 500 internal error, my site has about 20 million pages, 1 huge 20 million row mysql db and it loads superfast 0.01 seconds per kb. Though googlebot crashed my server a few times 1 day as it crawls about 200k pages per day and i ran out of ram, 4gb's worth...but after setting swap to 10gb hard disk never had any more problems.
I have read a number of people saying 'when can I make that amount'. Really its unique, some people speculate about when and how they will make good money and it doesn't happen. Some people try and fail. Some plan and suceed. Some try and with a bit of luck suceed. Many more outcomes as well, some have great ideas and plan well but come out with a mediocore profit. Your questions are asking 'can you predict the future for me?'. Google Adsense is no science. You cannot ensure you should and will be earning $100 a day with 'x' amount of effort and intelligence, its just like anything in life, unpredictable. You can raise your chances by working hard. It depends ultimately on you and your ideas and then most importantly putting them into action. If you believe you can then you wont be guaranteed to earn some $$$$ but I believe it helps. Just keep trying and make sure your better than competitors and you will probably have a 99.99% chance of earning.
The internal error is the server problem I thought we'd fixed, apparently not! Irritating thing is now I can't get a stable SHH connection so can't diagnose where the bottleneck is, at least not using tuning-primer.sh which needs MYSQL to have been running a while for best results. I guess that second server won't be a waste of money after all, should be setup tomorrow so will transfer the highest traffic site to it. Guess I won't be making another $100 AdSense day today David Law
I would advise you to have a dedicated server for MySQL. Also optimize the server for SQL. It is worth it since you are making $100 a day. Even paying $350 a month for the server shouldn't be a problem. Peace,
Don't want to eat into profits if its unnecessary, although a change of host may be needed if these problems reoccur or growth happens. 10,000 uniques a day can easily be handled by a decent host.
Not true. Not if they all come within a certain timeframe. Not all visitors are spread out accordingly. If you have over a certain connections per time it causes a heavy load. Peace,
Good job on getting your revenue back up to what it was before. Fighting an underpaid is such a pain in the ass. At least its not as bad as forum traffic.
