Just wanted to know if a dedicated IP is better for SEO. I think most sites are on shared hosting, but I wanted to know if it's worth paying a little more for a dedicated IP. Thanks.

there is no doubt site hosted on dedicated hosting is much better than shared hosting. Dedicated hosted sites perform well than shared hosted site. So it's not worth to pay for dedicated hosting. So i wud say if you cud afford then must go with dedicated hosting.........................

Yesh dedicated hosting is always good, if you have great plans to develop you site for long term.
and some time google ban those site which have same ip from shared hosting, and thus other sites have to pay for that.

But from a SEO standpoint, there is no proof that shared hosting is a negative.

Shared hosting does have a negative, and that is up time. And that will have a major impact on SEO.

Who said shared hosting has negative effect. Shared hosting does not have any negative effect. Here i trying to say if a site hosted on dedicated server then Google gives more concern to it.

But it's truth shared hosting does not have any negative effect.............

So is a dedicated IP and dedicated hosting the same thing? All I know is my host charges an extra $3.99 a month for a Dedicated IP. This is on top of my usual shared hosting fee, which is minimal of course. I'm not worried about up time though. In 3 years, I never had a site go down. My host basically says it's better for large, high traffic sites.

The only disadvantage to a shared account is that the server may experience problems/downtime due to the fact that you are on a shared environment. Other than that, there is no type of SEO effect.

Also a dedicated IP is completely useless, it will prbly be in the subnet anyway and has no effect on SEO.

Yes your host company saying right if you are running any large site and tons of traffic wud come to it then for security purposes dedicated hosting is must. But somewhere dedicated hosting has little advantage than shared hosting and this advantage is only trust factor. Google trust more a site hosted on dedicated hosting than shared hosting.

But i wanna make it clear i am not against shared hosting. but if you u cud afford then you shud go with dedicated hosting otherwise carry on with shared hosting.

Here are two factors i am saying to using dedicated hosting first google trust factor more to Dedicated hosting and for security purpose. Otherwise both are same...........

I don't have anything against shared hosting either, but if google trusts a site more on dedicated then it's definitely a plus.

Ha! This thread is already indexed in Google...freaking amazing.
