Can anybody point me to some law section which allows /disallows driving two wheeler in the footpath Are there any fine associated with it? Everyday I risk walking on footpath that I could be hit by a two wheeler moving with high speed in the footpath.
Ha Ha.. nice Qustion. In India footpaths are virtually not for walking. Its used for parking vehicles of the shops, building owners, visitors and Auto(ricksha) stands etc and as you said "bikers". And even footpath are authorised to small sellers of eateries, toys, plastic items and many more. They also have an association "Footpath Sellers Association" to save their rights to use footpaths of the streets, mainroads. Sadly this is common in all cities of India.
Parking is a different problem, the bigger issue is, when you cross road or walk on footpath, you are not safe even when you reach footpath, that is some two wheeler can mow you down in footpath and get away since anyway in india nothing happens to the car, bus, two wheeler driver who kills people in road accident.
Footpaths ! pedestrians hardly get to use them in the first place. It is crowded by hawkers and encroachers
its rather safe walking on the road than the footpath!! atleast u know what to expect when u r on the road !
