Which text editor to use?

    Hello,

So, some of you know, I am creating my own (very simple) CMS - just for fun, but also to get better at PHP.

I need some simple and lightweight text editor which I could use in the CMS for editing and adding new pages.

The only one I know is FCKeditor but it seems too robust for me.

I'm looking for something simple and fast with just basic functionality:
    - wysiwyg or html editing
    - text formatting (bold, italics, underline, headings etc)
    - adding links, images, lists to the text

Anyone can suggest some good editor? Should be under GPL license :)

    TextPad is my favorite.

No WYSIWYG though, it's for straight coding.

I just use Windows notepad. Works well enough for me. But you could try TextPad or Notepad++ Best to search google and see what you can find.

Well, but I need something web based to use in my CMS...

I code always by hand, I don't need it for myself...

Just go with FCKEditor -- it's easier to set up than any of the others I tried, and generates decent HTML unlike most. You can remove the buttons you don't want.

60% of responses talking about desktop editors so far... does anybody actually read the topic before replying, or only the thread title?

Thanks mate. Looks good. I'll will play with it a bit ;)

What I like about it is its simplicity... exactly what I need... I want my CMS to be very fast loading so I'm trying to use only really necessary stuff.

I read the thread...maybe he didn't explain clearly... Although I didn't visit the FCKeditor editor link.

I think it was fairly clear from that he wanted a text editor for his site, not for editing his PHP
Why would bold etc be needed for code editing?
    And the cherry on top...
I don't know of many people looking for something to edit their PHP in to ask for an editor with a GPL License lol

    I'd recommend TinyMCE over FCKeditor
