Does a backlink mean you have a link to your site but your site cant link to the site that linked to you? Or can both link to each other and it doesn't matter? (Side not my site still hasnt updated on google (nor yahoo).. i have new content meta tags title ect... none has updated... does updating normally take a little bit?)
Do search engines (mainly google) count reciprocal as high as a backlink (do reciprocal links even help google/other search engine ranks?)
A back link does not mean whether your site is linking to the other one or not, but that other one is linking back to your site. You both can link each other, but it like something which search engine's hates. Updating normally take a bit of time, depends on your website, they will automatically index your meta information.
Backlinks as you said , the links to your site. You can always link back to that site. It will be reciprocal backlinks. if you dont link back to him, it's one way linking and best for search engines. Reciprocal links has not much importance when compare to one way links. You can read more about backlinks from this post- Backlink - How to get backlinks for your blog or website Regarding your second question, If you are having hard time indexing by Google, you can follow the post How to Get Your Website Indexed Fast in Google and if you are saying that you made some changes in your contents and they are not being updated by Google, then i would suggest you to give some time. It takes time to update.
backlinks are the same thing as inlinks, and so forth. Its a count of how many other domains have links to your domain. It's very key to understand where you are placing your backlinks, because with out understanding where they lie on the "structural" web, you might misplace one and be counted against for your efforts by search engines
Wow GREAT GREAT ADVICE I feel so Welcomed here (Though I've been a member for a few years lol) To note: My list of questions never ends (Well one day it will but till than I research and ask what I cant find off-hand) This is my newest question(s) http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=9033400#post9033400
Reciprocal links doesn't make much a difference to your Search Engine Rankings. Oneway backlinks from Relevant sites are far more better than the RBL's.
If a site links to you, then you can link back but then the backlink that you got will not worth as much as it would be when you do not link back. One way links worth more.
Backlinks are a little tricky. I wouldn't go for reciprocal links myself. Same amount of time building one way backlinks which are more valuable Also just a quick note to say pay attention to the c class address of sites you are linking from
Say I got toys.com and than I also have toys.com/xobxsale/index.htm, now if I make the toys.com link to toys.com/xobxsale/index.htm would it be a backlink... or would it not count since its the same site? (Also if I put new meta tags on the xbox page would it show up in google when ppl look for xboxsales and than my main page would still be linked to wooden toys (If I have wooden toys meta tags)?)
