I wouldnt worry too much about it as honest people will pay for it. For example I once bought an illegal copy of a script (without knowing it was illegal) but when I found out, I contacted the developer and bought the real script. Thankfully the developers were nice and gave me a discount. Think of it as free publicity, as someone above said.

I think I will just make it harder for people to null my script by encoding it with encoders that have no history of being cracked. I will also put things in my script such as an email sender that sends me the persons database details when they try to tamper with the licensing.

You dont know what your talking about. I have installed many nulled versions of WHMCS and it works perfect. PM me and il give you a link to try yourself.

As for the author of this thread. This person who said hes gonna decode your script can't.
I decode scripts myself and at the momment there is no decoder that can crack the latest version of ioncube. Zend and other like that are a piece of piss to crack but ioncube is alot harder.

If you want more advice from someone who does decoding then PM me.

    Hi,
The person who started this thread said that the hacker has already shown him a copy of his functions file fully decoded. It was encoded with ioncube.
If you are yourself a decoder, could you please suggest some things programmers can do so it gets difficult for you(any decoder) to actually use the open source copies of script? More importantly, how to protect the KEY which is used to lock the license? Most of the times these keys are present in the script to decode the license string, and check for validity... How to protect these keys...
    Thank you :)

I know this doesn't sound encouraging but I wouldn't worry if I were you. Why?

    1. Anyone who intends to grow a business can't afford to run pirated software and therefore is forced to purchase a license.

    2. Only newbies experimenting with new stuff will download your nulled script but won't be able to use it on commercial websites so it can only help your product get popular.

Let's take phpCow for example. You can download it on every warez forum and a lot of people have the script on their hard drives but how many run live websites with it? None. I admit I download pirated versions of scripts but I only use them for testing and developing websites so I can compare which one works best for me. They are no use to me because I don't want to risk my business for few bucks. After I play for a while with them I decide which one I'm going to spend my money on. I practically save money and sleepless nights cracking my head against the wall thinking did I choose the right product. It may sound ironic but I purchase web scripts thanks to pirated versions because demo websites just don't work for me. I like to take full control.

I am a programmer/designer myself so I respect people's work because I know what it takes to make something from scratch but I think you really have nothing to worry about in your case. Games, software, books and templates can be a pain in the neck for authors but web scripts are a completely different category.

If you are the same guy in here, i would say every dog has its day and if you nulled someone's work, you should have known that developers of that script would have felt the same when they see their copies of work available for free on the web.

If its not you (you should know it to your conscience), then i take back my words and say sorry. Period.

EDIT : Just realized its a month and half old thread.
