Trying to snag up all those wayward half-way racist womanly Clinton supporters who are still PMSing about Clinton not having the Democratic nomination, is there any other reason why he would have picked her for his VP?

Member of Feminists for Life, man this lady is going to rake in those Clinton votes like she was giving away free candy!

Politics are dirty, not surprised at McCain moves, as long as it gets them to the White House, I believe McCain and Obama will be more than willing to do and say what they think the voters wanted. Whether or not they will genuinely do it in office or whether they believe in what they are saying is another question altogether.

I partially agree, but more so with Obama, His "Change" theme is played out. He is not the first one to Cry change, He wont be the first one to fail to deliver it either.

Look at Hillary and Bill Clinton. 2 people that hate Obama, and spent the last year or so telling America that he was inexperienced and not ready to be president, yet they now claim that he is their candidate. And the only man for the job.

The lengths politicians will go to get their party in the white house is amazing.

I admit Palin was probably a political move, but seeing her values and what she stands for, i say he couldn't have made a better choice.

Palin is a great choice for VP if all you care about is getting rid of Woman's rights, abstinence only education, teaching of creationism, denying global warming is caused by human action, and other things that the far right of the Republicans drool over.

    This makes me laugh:

She doesn't know what the Vice President does :)

I saw that last night as well. Beyond the fact of it, the manner in which she asked - is it just me, or did she just seem completely - can't pin the word - naive, deer in the headlights, not up to being very possibly the next President, under an emergent situation?

Watching Jon Stewart, I actually thought he pegged it - to her "what's a VP do?," he said...."oh, uh, basically sits around all day and PREPARES TO TAKE THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB ON THE PLANET!"

That is risky given that she is the 2nd in command and McCain isn't very young for that matter. Anything happening to McCain may well thrust her directly into the most powerful seat on Earth and with that comes extraordinary responsibilities and pressure. She should not be seen as just another VP but a potential President in waiting.......

You have to remember it is VP she is running for, her experience is limited but her values are awesome. Obama doesn't have much experience either, and he wants to be number one, not number 2.

McCain on the other hand is a man with lots of experience, including war experience which is of great value in these times. Palin will do fine under McCain, and if the time comes when she has to replace McCain, then she will step up and take over.

That is assuming the best of circumstances when McCain had governed for a few years and had taken the troubles to groom her. In actual fact, I don't think many existing Presidents bother to groom their VPs.

Seriously, anyone involved in FEDERAL politics like house and senate members that work with the executive branch on a daily basis do. So yes :)

I wouldn't call it dirty, I would call it Pure 100% politics. (okay, in this environment Pure 100% politics typically = dirty).

She is young, relatively inexperienced, removed from review and scrutiny by the public in general.

On the other hand she has an extraordinarily high popularity rating in Alaska.

It will be interesting going forward. Virtually all of us outside of Alaska know nothing about her.

In that context, McCain picked a "mystery" running mate, about whom little or nothing is known.

Strictly in terms of politics: personally, for her to become an asset and not an absolute disaster for McCain, I think two things need to happen:

    1. They need to immediately cease using her as a mouthpiece to say: "women, you got screwed with Hillary's loss. Come to us, because, well, I'm a woman." They persist in this, I predict it will horribly backfire.

    2. They need to get her in shape in short order. From what I can tell, she has absolutely no experience in anything of import in this election, save energy policy. She will have to cram for the biggest examination of her life - with a matter of weeks only to go, and with debates with Biden, surely, ahead, if she blows any of them, takes a belly flop on key questions - well, the Emperor Has No Clothes, and they're done.

It worked once, a young mannekin to offset the older, establishment would-be Prez - Dan Quayle - but I don't see it working this time around.

    hahahahaha nice punchline

Governor of Alaska for 18 months - so much experience there I am just awestruck.

When McCain croaks within the next year or so she would be the president....

    That's really scary.

That would be an interesting situation. I think McCain would be a great president but I am not so sure about this Palin lady. She is not only young, but has practically no experience. The worst crisis she has had to deal with was whether or not there will be enough snow for the dog sledding competition.

Dont you people know the president doesn't really make the decisions anyway. It doesn't matter who the president is, someone else pulls the strings. I just want someone in there with a decent set of values

    Values

I don't values matter to some people. I sure you have read the responses on values.

Clinton proved that anyone can be President.
